Mangaluru, Sep 30: "We have failed in promoting and marketing tourism in the state,” said minister for Tourism, Kannada and Culture, C T Ravi.

He was speaking at meet the press programme here at Press Club on, September 30.

Minister C T Ravi further said, "Our state is rich in culture. We have five national parks, five world heritages, 40 waterfalls, which are identified as tourist spots, modern and western culture that will attract tourists. Despite having all these, we have failed in promoting and marketing of tourism in the proper way to attract the tourists,”

“Rs 9,500 crore has been allotted for tourism department in the central budget. There are 319 tourist destinations in the state. We are planning to bring in tourism circuit plan and tourism policy such as western tourism policy, heritage tourism policy, and coastal tourism policy,” he added.

“I am conducting a study tour, visiting all the districts in the state, to understand our department well to make a detailed plan to promote tourism by taking suggestions from the experts and make use of private organizations and CSR funds for the same,” Ravi informed.

With regard to coastal tourism, C T Ravi said, "There are 13 islands in the coastal belt which have to be developed. There are opportunities to conduct sports activities. Coastal region can be a top tourist destination if coastal region makes it as a tourism circuit. Coastal belt has temple tourism, education tourism and wellness tourism. At the same time we need to promote experience tourism,”

“Kambala sport can be found only in the coastal belt. With the help of this, we can promote tourism worldwide. We are rich in culture and this has to be promoted. Even Yakshagana art can be used to promote tourism. At the same time, people expect safety in terms hygiene and other aspects. We need to improve connectivity to these tourism spots, especially the road connectivity. Tourism can be promoted by giving information technically by uploading videos and giving information about the tourist spots,” he said.

“Tourism and culture are promoted indirectly through Alva’s Virasat. Similarly others can join hands in promoting the department. It is always a challenge to fulfill the vacant posts in tourism department which will also be taken for consideration. I have urged to conduct demand-based survey of every district so that so we can fulfill the requirements pertaining to tourism,” added C T Ravi.

Future of 17 disqualified MLAs

Replying to a query on the future of the disqualified ministers, C T Ravi said, "The future of 17 disqualified MLAs will be decided after the Supreme Court’s judgment for which we all are waiting,”

“In the year 2018, people did not give majority for us. Due to technical reasons, after 17 MLAs were disqualified, we came to power. Now the future of 17 disqualified MLAs will be decided after Supreme court’s decision.”

When asked about chief minister B S Yediyurappa's statement at Davanagere where he said, "Right now the situation it like I am walking on a wire as I need to think 10 times before taking any decision,”, C T Ravi said, "If we have certain aim to focus, then it is like walking on a wire. When we focus on certain aim, we do not want to divert on other things. So what it means is we ministers are walking on a wire.”

MLA's Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Bharath Y Shetty, President of District working journalist union Srinivas Nayak Indaje and others were present.

MANY PEOPLE HERE COMMENTED ABOUT MORAL POLICING, COMMUNAL RIOTS ARE FACTORS THATS HINDERING TOURISM HERE. IT IS NOT TRUE.

TOURISM IN MANGALORE IS GOOD AND TOURISTS ARE INCREASING EVERY YEAR. MANGALORE IS ONLY ONE MAJOR CITY IN KARNATAKA THAT HAS COASTLINE. A TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADATION, ESPECIALLY WATERFRONT INFRASTRUCTURE WILL DEFINITELY BOOST TOURISM TO A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL,AND OF COURSE ADVERTISEMENT TOO.

As alleged by Minister C T Ravi -" We have five national parks, five world heritages, 40 waterfalls, which are identified as tourist spots, modern and **WESTERN** culture that will attract tourists."

What " WESTERN " culture are you referring to? Discoteques, Nightclubs, Happ hours, Mouth watering Pork and Beef delicacies of the region ???

    a) Please build proper restrooms , instead of unkept, stinky, broken bathrooms instead of urinating anywhere.
    b) Supply of adequate drinking water
    c) Driveable roads
    d) Proper road signs
    e) Proper ettiquette eduction to all citizens of NOT staring or Mind your own house/business
    f) N O SOUND HORN !!!! in all Indian languages
    g) Ban all gadangs which encourage rowdiness
    h) No Shoes/ No Shirt/ No service to ALL
    i) No overstuffed buses, cars to be plied on roads.
    j) The list goes on and on...

So let me shup up and stop because if the above minimum ""EASTERN"" CULTURE are not met, how can we progress to the rest of the Do's/ dont's from J to Z !

You need Agressive, Intelligent , highly educated individual, not necessarily Minister to take up the position and given authority , bring changes and give new face to Tourism; to do so, one needs to
travel overseas, learn from seeing others do it. It should be a 5 year plan with teams to set up.
A dynamic forward thinking person is must for the job.

The mantras are from the Taittiriya Upanishad, 'Atithi Devo Bhava prescribes a dynamic of the host-guest relationship doesn't suits well with Mangalore with its past record of 'Pub attack', 'Morning Mist attack', 'Moral police', 'cow vigilanisim', 'Church attack' and so on.

Incredible India! is only good for Hindu fanatic organization always looking to flare communal violence?
While urban Mangaluru woke up to communal riots for the first time post-Independence in 1968, it was not until a decade later that the rest of the region saw this kind of polarisation. This decade saw the RSS pushing forward in full steam and finally exploding into a powerful movement.

In Mangaluru, Communal violence is Par for the course. A high level of education hasn't prevented this coastal town from becoming a hotbed of rabid and violent majoritarianism.

Vigilante groups wage war against western culture and 'love jihad', turning Mangalore's society into a communal tinderbox.

Dance floor and music are a thing of the past in Mangalore's pubs and clubs. The City of Imagined Enemies.
During the last years of the BJP regime (from 2010 to 2012), there were 292 cases. But in the past three years of Congress rule (2015 to 2017), they went up to 457. As 2013 was an election year, the BJP and Congress-ruled for about six months each. In all, 111 cases were reported in that year. In 2014, after the Congress came to power, 173 cases were reported in the two districts.

Mangalore is the Incredible city of communal violence No end to riots without riots.

Question yourself, who gives these ministers portfolio ? Do they know who is qualified and well educated to carry on the responsibility ? Every one is running for their own benefits. They have no knowledge of Tourism forget about promoting ?? It is an utter failure in Karnataka.
Look at your closest neighbor, in spite of all the problems they have due to flood and rains, they still
do an excellent job promoting tourism, our people must learn from successful people.
You cannot take advise from people who are failure, they can only direct how to fail.

As long as BJP goonda subsidies are active in Karnataka, no tourists will be safe and will not come here. Traffic is so bad that you can’t even cross a road without being knocked down. Only golden triangle and Kerala are advertised abroad along with Goa.

Tourism in DK specialy foreign tourists is zero. It became bad after the first time BJP came to power in South India. We in Mangalore attack pubs, homestay, hit gals, attack churches and etc. So why would tourists come to such a place? Must see to it that our flyover at Pumpwell is completed.

This press conference is just for the name sake. Nothing is going to be changed anytime soon. You will do the study tour of state and spend the tax payers money and eventually do nothing. First of all even your Chief minister has no powers to do anything for the state independently without a go ahead from Delhi. You talk about Tourism whereas this ministry is with some other minister. Your Govt has not helped the people who were affected by the floods recently, then what we can expect from you?
First get rid of moral policing, stop these hate speeches, fill and repair all those pot holed roads in and around the city, clear the cities from the filthy garbage issues, create awareness with people to respect every religion, improve the infrastructure and make sure your goons will not trouble the tourists who come to see the beautiful places in and around DK/Udupi districts. People are scared to go out as they fear for the moral police to catch hold of them and harass them. We all know that you don’t have a plan for making our state tourist friendly state, rather you just come here, give speech and waste tax payers money. The final outcome is a big Zero.

No tourist want to come to a place where they keep their houses clean from inside by throwing the garbage out through their windows and doors around the house. Govt also should help the citizens in order to better manage garbage disposal. Nothing is clean, orderly and pleasant for tourists to enjoy their stay in India. Nothing will be solved by arguing to win the rottening issue.
