Bangalore, Jul 23: Karnataka aims to become ``child labour free state’’ by 2011-12,  state labour minister B N Bacche Gowda informed the state legislative assembly on Thursday, July 23.

The state government has prepared a detailed action plan for elimination of child labour practice by 2011-12 and released Rs 18.91 crore during the last nine years (2001-02 to 2009-10) for implementing various programmes for elimination of child labour, the minister said.

Answering questions from members during the question hour in the house, the minister said the Centre had also extended the project on elimination of child labour for the 11th Five Year Plan period

The officials will be devoting one week in a month for conducting raids on hotels, garages, factories, construction sites and other hazardous industries.

As soon as a child labour is identified, the child is released from work and rehabilitated in mainstream schools or child labour special schools. Legal action is also initiated against the erring employers. If the child was found working in hazardous occupation, action to be taken to collect a penalty of Rs 20,000 per child as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

Child labourers are rehabilitated either in mainstream school or special child labour schools where they are given one or two-year bridge course. During the stay in Special Child Labour School, children were provided with free food, hostel, uniform, health facility and education.

Of the 387 schools sanctioned, 294 have been functioning in 15 districts, he added.

This is good news atleast Government has thought of this. As far as the Rural employment and minimum wage policy is followed and reach the lower level, I am sure poverty will slowly go away and people will by default send their children to school. Anyway it is our duty as citizens to teach our neighbors the Government schemes and the importance of Education for a better tomorrow.

Karnataka Govt can set the bench mark to abolish child labour and achieve it and set a goal to other Indian States also. In Child Labour, child begging should also be abolished. There should be a ban on CHILD BEGGING, WHICH IS CRUDEST FORM OF CHILD LABOUR, IN WHICH THE POLICEMEN ALSO GET HAFTAS, where infants and children are either given birth or kidnapped and misused (even maimed) by cruel and heartless people. stop giving money to babies and children.

THEY ARE MADE TO BEG IN THE SCORCHING SUN, COLD AND RAINS and THE MONEY COLLECTED BY THEM IS USED BY THE SCOUNDRELS AND IF THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO COLLECT ENOUGH MONEY THEY ARE DONE AWAY WITH. Even, if these children survive somehow the girls go in the flesh trade and boys become thieves or some anti social elements. Only give food, clothing and shelter. better still you may give the money to NGOs, who will rehabilitate the innocent babies and children and finally

THE SCOUNDRELS WILL STOP MISUSING INNOCENT CHILDREN FOR THEIR SELFISH GAINS. REMEMBER ALL CHILDREN ARE INNOCENT AND VULNERABLE AND CANNOT FIGHT THE CRUEL WORLD ON THEIR OWN. PLEASE STOP GIVING ALMS TO BABIES AND CHILDREN AND ALSO, TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES WHO IN TURN SHOULD SPREAD THE NEWS. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN SAVE OUR INNOCENT CHILDREN. NA RAHENGI BAS NA BAJEGI BASOORI.

This is a very noble goal by the Karnataka State government. I applaud the state government whole-heartedly for willing to tackle this social demon. Child labor should be prevented and eliminated with a carrots and sticks method. The sticks waved by the government are significant and well planned. Parallel to rehabilitating the child by providing schooling, the state should also plan to incentivize the parents or the guardian to make sure that the child not only attends school and has food to eat, but also excels in school. Anyway, the state government is on the right track.
