Moodbidri: Hariyappana kere, Konaje kallu to be developed soon
Moodbidri, Aug 6 (DHNS): The Moodabidri Forest sub division is planning to develop ‘Hariyappana kere’ situated on Udupi-Karkala-Belthangady route with the help from Nallur Grama Aranya Samithi, said Moodabidri ACF Manjunath Shetty.
Speaking to presspersons at the sidelines of Vanamahotsava and ‘Vraksha laksha’ andolana in Moodabidri on Wednesday, he said the Hariyappana kere will be developed into a tourist spot with the help of Forest Development Agency.
At the same time, plans are on the anvil to develop ‘Konaje kallu’ at an estimated cost of Rs 3 lakh. It will comprise a trekking route, rest room, toilet facilities, solar electricity and drinking water.

Besides, a proposal to desilt ‘Pandrabhya kere’ in Valpady village has been submitted to the government. In fact, it will be developed as an ‘all weather tank’ with the help of Grama Aranya Samithi.
Shetty said ‘Purple gudde’ forest area in Karkala will also be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh. With the grant, structures in the shape of paragola will be laid, besides drinking water facilities and seating facility along with trekking route. Measures have been taken to develop Koodlutheertha with people’s participation in Hebri range.
Unique programme
The Forest department in association with students of various schools, colleges and NGOs observed vanamahotsava with a theme ‘Niccha hasiru swaccha parisara’ in an unique way by removing the weeds, planting saplings and picking plastics from the roadside on Wednesday in Moodbidri.
Speaking on the occasion, ACF Manjunath Shetty said the forest department will make an arrangement to provide 1,000 saplings to be planted within a month in Moodabidri. 1,000 tree guards have been donated by the donors in Moodabidri to protect the saplings.
To create an awareness on Malaria, dengue, chikungunya, fogging has been undertaken in Moodabidri town. To create an awareness on environment and the maintain cleanliness, house-to-house awareness will be organised by handing over the pamplets, he added. An awareness will be created among students to identify the trees. “We have already identified 70 trees in the forest department land,” he informed.
Another unique programme of sowing the seeds of incense tree will be undertaken by the forest department officials on the roadside. These saplings grow in shade and do not require much care and protection.
All the officials have been asked to do this work voluntarily in each and every road in Moodabidri.
A pamphlet explaining how National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme can be utilised to grow greenery in and around was also released on the occasion. Moodabidri MLA Abahayachandra Jain was present.
Later, Jain, ZP former president Sucharitha Shetty and others planted saplings in Alva’s College premises, Mahaveera Jain PU College, Mohammadiya English Medium School. Fingerlings of Roho, Katla and other varieties were released to Kadalakere.
