Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College inaugurates Eco Club

Mangaluru, Oct 26: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), here, recently inaugurated its Eco Club for the year 2019-20. The inauguration was done by watering saplings.

Dr Smitha Hedge, professor at Centre for Science Education and Research, Nitte University, was chief guest during the programme. Harshitha from III year CSE welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest.

Dr Vincent Crasta, in-charge principal and HOD of Physics Department at SJEC, mentioned that in addition to technical education, students should also study the nature around them and help to preserve the ecosystem.



Dr Smitha Hegde, in her inaugural address, spoke about the importance of balancing the ecosystem and minimizing the carbon footprint. She said that if humans destroy the ecosystem, plants may end up destroying humans one day.

Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of SJEC, brought about the talk of Greta Thunberg at the climate action summit and also said that every human has the responsibility to save the environment.

Fr Rohith D’Costa and Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, assistant directors of SJEC, Rakesh Lobo, HR manager of SJEC, Ajithanjaya Kumar MK, chairperson of Community Engagement Group and Ashwin Shetty, head of the Eco Club were also present on the occasion.

The president of Eco Club, Olsten D’Souza from III-year Mechanical Engineering, rendered the vote of thanks.

Following the inaugural, Dr Smitha Hegde delivered a very informative talk on Geo-Tagging of Plants.
