High Court Stays Probe Order in Atul Rao Case

Bangalore, Aug 14 (DHNS): The High Court has stayed the investigation order by a lower court into the allegation made by Udupi MLA, Raghupathi Bhat, that Atul Rao had an illicit relationship with his wife Padmapriya and has been responsible for her death.

Hearing a petition by Rao, who had challenged the probe against him, Justice Subhash K Adi has stayed the matter for four weeks.

Bhat had complained that Rao had admitted that he had illicit relationship with Padmapriya, which strained their relationship and eventually led to her death.

The lower court, which heard the matter had directed the Manipal Police to probe into the matter and file a report by October 3, 2009.

However, Rao challenged the matter in the High Court stating that the investigation has been completed and a charge sheet has been filed.

Justice Adi who stayed the probe has also directed the State to secure charge sheet of the earlier case.
