Mangaluru City Corporation Election - Moderate voters' turnout of 59.67%

Mangaluru, Nov 12: The polling for 14 urban local bodies including Mangaluru and Davanagere city corporations ended at 5 pm. State election commission had made elaborate arrangements for this election.

Lot of voters were seen before the polling stations opened at 7 am. As the weather is sunny, better turnout was expected in Mangaluru. But that was not the case.

As per the last data, the voter turnout was 59.67%.  Out of 3, 94,894 voters, 2.35,628 voted in the election. 1.13,084 were men, 1, 22,527 were women and 17 were from third gender among the voters who exercised the franchise.



At 3 pm, the voters' turnout was 46%. The turnout was 39.50% at 1 pm. 

At 11 am the polling turnout was 24.50%. It was 10.75% at 9 am. 

Polling time was from 7 am to 5 pm.

There are 60 wards in Mangaluru city.

The election was held today for two city corporations, six city municipal councils, three municipalities, and three town panchayats. Out of 418 wards, election will be held for 409 wards through 1,388 polling booths. 

13.04 lac voters could cast their votes. Nine candidates have already been declared as unanimously elected. 1,587 candidates are in the fray, and counting of votes will take place on November 14.

By-poll for vacant seats in some municipalities and town panchayats will also be held today. Polling for 213 vacant seats in gram panchayats is also being held today.
