Moodbidri, Aug 19: “Photography is an art in itself. No one can become a professional cameraman by just aiming the camera and clicking pictures. A skilled photographer visualizes the image of the picture, even before he actually shoots it. Constant learning about the latest technological innovations in the field keeps an ace photographer in good stead,” said Walter Nandalike, editor in-chief of www.daijiworld.com and managing director of Daijiworld Media Network Private Limited.
Walter Nandalike was speaking at the inaugural function organized for conferring of the ‘Prabhalekhana Ratna’, a photography award, to ace cameraman Yajna Mangalore. The function was organized at Mahaveer College auditorium, here on Wednesday August 19 morning. It was jointly organized by Udupi Press Photographers’ Association (UPPA), Mahaveer College Literary and Art Club and Shree College, here.
UPPA president Hemanath Padubidri presided over the programme.
SKF Group of Concerns chairman and managing director G Ramakrishna Achar presented ‘Prabhalekhana Ratna’ award to Yajna Mangalore, on this occasion.
Tulu and Kannada litterateur Jayanti S Bangera inaugurated the photo exhibition of Yajna Mangalore, held on this occasion. In her inaugural address, Jayanti said that a photograph taken by a talented photographer has the potential to portray emotions and details that even a poem or story may find it hard to explain.
Yajna Mangalore said that the committed professional cameramen need to strive for excellence in their chosen field, by updating on the latest technology. The contribution of the respective mentors also goes a long way in helping them to reach the level of perfection that would assure excellent future for them, he noted.
Astro Mohan, photojournalist of Udayavani, a leading Kannada daily, said that photography has excellent employment potential, if pursued with interest and supported with constant study of the field. It also gets due respect in the society and the media, he said.
Astro Mohan also called upon the cameramen to follow the lead from ace photographers like P Satyan, Dr Dattaniya, Roy and others, to be able to excel in their chosen profession.
