Mangaluru: ‘Benddkar’ Konkani movie is worth watching family entertainer

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Nov 22: He changed the style of storytelling. He adopted a completely new formula of movie making. He equally mixed the comedy and sentiments. When the end credits appeared on screen, audience cheered and the director of ‘Benddkar’ Harry Fernandez smiled from the back seat at the theatre where the film had its Mangaluru premiere. This is the analysis we can write about ‘Benddkar’ in a nutshell.

After back to back three Konkani films, Harry Fernandez was branded for a particular story telling style and direction. But with ‘Benddkar’, he inverts all the calculations of the movie lovers. ‘Benddkar’ is a pure family entertainer with a beautiful presentation of family life of trumpet artist Jacob who owns a brass band team.

The story revolves mainly around the characters of Jacob (Prince Jacob), his wife Jessy (Varsha Usgaonkar), Kevin (Kevin D’Mello), Venessa (Naisa Lotlekar) and J D ( Stany Alvares). Jacob and Jessy’s love towards Kevin (Jacob’s brother) and their affection for brass band create sentimental moments while the love between rich Venessa and Kevin sends romantic waves on screen. The very important part in the story is the selfishness of J D who brings the crucial twist in the plot. The movie ends with emotional sequences as well as with a good message too. The comedy also gets equal importance in story with the director taking special care in giving proper proportion without disturbing the main story.

Based on the story, each character gets equal importance on screen and all actors justify their roles. Special appreciation should go to Naisa Lotlekar, the heroine of the movie. Though she is a beginner, she has put her hundred percent efforts to play the character of Venessa in a beautiful way.

Harry Fernandes succeeds in using the acting experiences of Konkani’s known actors Prince Jacob, Varsha Usgaonkar , John D Silva, Stany Alvares, Deepak Paladka and Kevin D’Mello. Debutants Sunitha Menezes and Salomi Alvares are also good in playing their roles. Both will remain in the minds of audience even after the movie ends.

Young music director Patson Pereira’s score is another highlight of ‘Benddkar’. Patson has shown his versatility and arranged the traditional music according to the story. He has tried to bring liveliness of brass band which makes the audience to get the real feel. The songs of the movie have rich lyrics.

Cinematography and editing are pleasant with chances for improvement.

Harry Fernandes has managed successfully to highlight the lives of brass band artists whom the current generation has completely forgotten with the invasion of modern day music. The emotional climax indirectly gives a good message to the audience which automatically makes them to utter the words ‘Benddkar is a good movie, worth watching.”
