The chief guest of the day, Fr Clement Mascarenhas, parish priest, St Lawrence Church, correspondent and headmaster, St Lawrence English Medium School, Moodubelle, provided guidelines to the teachers and parents on how to deal with the children through stories. He compared the teachers to the one who plays a musical instrument and students to the instrument. He said, “A teacher is the one who plays the violin and tunes it. Such teachers are found at St Mary’s." He also advised the parents not to be overprotective, allow children to bring out their talents and creativity. As parents are the first teachers, children must be allowed to identify their potentials instead of imposing their will on the children. Parents are guides and it is the responsibility of the parents to help their children to follow the right path in their life by knowing their children properly. He praised the school saying that St Mary’s is one of the best schools in Udupi district and not less than any of the schools in Mangaluru, though it is located in a village. Finally, he wished that fame of St Mary’s may reach higher under the direction of responsible, talented and linguist correspondent, the able captainship of young, energetic and bubbling principal, guiding vice-principal and dedicated teachers.
Fr Valerian Mendonca correspondent, St Mary’s Educational Institutions, being an accordion player, in his presidential speech explained how to tune the students to get the desired music and guide them. He said that children must be admired and that their hidden talents should be recognized. "St Mary’s provides equal opportunity to all the students and executes various activities required for life. The school accommodates differently-abled children too, through its policy of inclusive education." He requested the parents to help their child to grow, give them the power to achieve great success in the future. He thanked the parents for their wonderful support throughout and promised to hand over global citizens who are trained within the four walls of St Mary’s.
Fr Johnson Sequeira presented the annual report of the school through a powerpoint presentation at the beginning of the formal programme. As a token of love, the guest of the event was presented with a memento by the correspondent on behalf of the school.
The students from grade 1 to 6 presented a variety of programmes based on the theme 'Rainbow of Life' in the cultural programme. The entertainment programme started with a beautiful welcome dance. The students showcased their talents differently through action songs, spiritual and emotional dances showing the nine emotions of human beings namely love, kindness, anger, compassion, peace, laughter, comedy, harmony, sadness etc. The performance of the students on the stage was awesome.
The programme as a whole was meaningful and emotional which gave a beautiful message to the people gathered. Helen expressed words of gratitude. The event ended with the singing of the school anthem. The parents, the guardians and the well-wishers of the school beautified the venue and helped in the success of the celebration by their gracious presence.
