Bantwal: Panic in Vittal town after running auto-rickshaw catches fire

Bantwal, Nov 23: A running auto-rickshaw at Vitla four-road intersection caught fire all of a sudden on Saturday, November 23.

The auto-rickshaw belonged to Barebettu, Kolnad resident Ashraf. It was on its way from Kasargod to Kudthamogeru when it caught fire due to leakage of gas. The driver jumped from the vehicle and saved himself.

As there are shops in the vicinity, the incident caused anxiety among people. Vitla market was filled with people. People started running in all directions from the spot. As the fire became intense, locals got down to action and extinguished it preventing a likely catastrophe.

The vehicle was partly gutted. Vittal station police personnel visited and conducted spot inspection confirming that leakage of gas caused the fire.

    Kasaragod to Vitla by auto rickshaw? Quite a long distance and it is hazardous to use autorikshaw for long distance travel that too running on gas. Luckily fire was extinguished by the locals which saved the surrounding area from likely explosion of the cylinder. Thank God.

    People should be aware of the consequences when they are going for the cheaper options and not to put the general public life in dangerous situation !! probe to be investigated by the local police and corrective actions to be taken.
