Udupi, Nov 25: A fishing boat that had sailed from Malpe fishing port accidentally drowned near Netrani, Murudeshwar in Bhakal taluk when undertaking fishing activity on Sunday, November 24. Personnel of the Coastal Security Police rescued four fishermen on board the ill-fated boat.

The boat bearing the name, 'Shreeleela' owned by Sheelaraj had left Malpe on Saturday. At around 5.15 am on Sunday, when the boat was undertaking fishing near Netrani, the wood fixed around the diesel tank was breached and water gushed into the boat. Those in the boat immediateiy informed others and sent distress signals. This information was passed on by other boats by wireless and Gillnet boat people came to help the fishermen.

Due to the drowning of the boat, loss to the extent of Rs 30 lac was suffered by the owner.

Coastal Security Police located at Malpe, under the instructions of Malpe coastal security police force superintendent, Chetan R, conducted emergency operation. They came in an interceptor boat, reached the spot where the fishermen identified as Anand Mogera, Guru Kharvi and Manjunathi from Bhatkal and Ramesh Chalavadi from Kalaburagi were facing peril, and rescued them.

SP Chetan R has announced cash award to inspector of Bhatkal coastal security force station, Nagaraj, sub-inspector, Annappa Mogera, technical staff, Capt Mallappa Mudigouder, and navigator, Sanjeev Nayak in recognition of their prompt action.
