Dubai, Nov 25: There is a proverb that says ‘Charity begins at home’. Keeping in mind this common phrase, ‘Jingles’, a community group, comprising of friends and families living in Dubai who bond through a common aspiration and objective ‘to make a difference’ and ‘to give back’ to the society set out in the year 2010 to raise funds for children suffering with leukemia.

The group is associated with Red Crescent Dubai and includes about 45 members which was founded by Rajiv David, who is an entrepreneur along with his wife Jessica David. The group has everyone from professionals to home makers and grandparents to little children, all of whom who come together over the weekends for this mission. Rajiv David staunchly believes that as individual in a society he is fortunate to be blessed with everything to lead a comfortable lifestyle and wanted to do something that would directly impact the lives of those who need the resources, especially the little children who Jingles are helping to give a real shot a life. All the members of Jingles say that caroling has given them an opportunity to give back to the society. It has created a feeling of responsibility and willingness towards a cause that will help people who are in dire need of resources. They feel truly exhilarated to be associated with a cause as noble as this.

Since 2010, Jingles has raised thousands of dirhams for kids with serious illnesses.

In 2016, within 4 weekends of caroling the group raised Dh426,000 that went towards the treatment of three critically ill kids.

This year, Jingles in association with Red Crescent and permit from the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) is back together once again and will be singing Christmas carols across different venues in the UAE to help raise funds for 3 young children who are suffering from leukemia. The cases have been picked with utmost care after meeting the doctors and parents of the children in need of help. Jingles will be singing across residences in Dubai until Christmas to raise funds for Layan Elsayed, 3, from Egypt, who requires around Dh250,000 for her treatment, Xander John, 2, from the Philippines, who needs Dh150,000, Basmala Sameh, 7, from Egypt, who is short of Dh200,000 and Jasmine, 28, from the Philippines who requires Dh100,000 for her chemotherapy. In addition to this Mohammad Hamza, 4, requires Dh 100,000 whose life-long treatment for a rare disease Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome or HUS they continue to support.

Jingles will be caroling up until Christmas. One can also join the cause by direct contributions, but besides this, those wishing to be part of the contributions can arrange for as many families to be gathered at their homes, so Jingles could come over and sing a lively round of Christmas carols along with Santa Claus. Each round takes around 30 minutes and covers 12 to 15 popular carols that help add to the festive cheer.
