Beltangady, Sep 15:  A woman from Halegi village of Beltangady taluk was done to death, presumably with the help of a knife, on Monday September 14.

Kamala (38), wife of Vittal Achary, as usual, had been to the home of her neighbourer Vijaya, located a little away from her home, to collect milk and curds at around 10.30 am on Monday. At that time, her husband, who is a carpenter by profession was away on work, and her two children, a son and a daughter, had been to school.

When Vittal Achary came back home from work at about 8 pm on Monday, he saw both his children weeping, unable to find their mother anywhere. He then started searching for his wife  in his backyard and the adjacent government lands and found the lifeless body of his wife lying on a hillock, a little away from his home. The woman's body was found lying along with the pitcher and milk bottle she carried with her, and also a bag she was carrying at the time. The golden 'Tali' and a chain she was wearing around her neck, were found to be intact.  A deep gash was found on the left side of Kamala's neck. No clues about the murderer were found at the spot.

Beltangady former MLA Prabhakar Bangera and zilla panchayat member Shahul Hamid visited the spot. Uppinangady policemen have inspected the spot and registered a case. So far, there have been no indications about either the motive for the murder or who committed it. The people have been hoping that the police investigation would succeed in nailing the culprit.
