Mangaluru: Prof Narahari retires from St Aloysius College after serving for 42 years

Mangaluru, Jan 6: Prof A M Narahri retired from St Aloysius College after a long service of nearly 42 years. Although he reached the age of superannuation in 2014, the management of St Aloysius College had extended his services as the Registrar for five years.

Starting his career as a lecturer in Commerce in 1978, he served the college in different capacities such as HOD, Dean and later as the first Registrar under autonomous status. Thousands of students have passed through his guidance and teaching. St Aloysius College has seen tremendous growth in these years and he had a significant role in it. Firmly believing in continuous learning, he did his LLB in 1984 while in service and secured first rank in Mangalore University. Later he also did his MPhil and PhD studies.

Prof Narahari involved himself in the teachers’ movement for the cause of qualitative improvement of higher education. AMUCT (Association of Mangalore University College Teachers) came to the forefront under his leadership. He led the organization for 25 years and later became the president of the Federation of University and College Teachers’ Associations in Karnataka. While leading the teacher movement at the state level for 10 years, he was instrumental in ensuring several changes in higher education with improved service conditions for teachers. He was also recognized by National Organizations.

Prof Narahai served in the Mangalore University Senate and Academic Council by getting elected twice. Recognizing his talent and commitment, the state government had appointed him as a member of the State Higher Education Council. He was also appointed as an expert member on several committees including the high power committee to amend the State Universities Act.

Prof Narahari was also associated with several social organizations. His writings have been published in several newspapers. He participated in several discussions, debates and interviews in the media as an expert on many contemporary issues. He intends to share his knowledge on higher education post retirement.

    Dear Sir,
    Congratulations on your achievements and the contribution to St. Alyosius College.
    Ours was the first batch in 1 Puc in 1978 when you joined st. Aloysius and sorry sir we were not the best batch for you to start your career. There were a lot of hiccups in the initial period but I think we managed. Sorry for all the trouble we gave you.

    Narahari Sir taught me accountancy in second puc way back in 1982. I did not do degree but went on do my diploma but used to see his progress.

    Superb lecturer. To the point and highly knowledgable and bundle of energy.

    Wish you good luck Sir. Though you are retired from St. Aloysius college, please continue the good work with various associations you are in touch with. Society needs excellent people like you for help.

    A fantastic teacher who made the subjects fun (some very yawn inspiring), an exceptional person, those who have gone through Prof Narahari's hands are fortunate. I am.
