Mangaluru: Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing welcomes new batches

Mangaluru, Jan 17: Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing on January 17 witnessed the lamp lighting ceremony of the 23rd batch of Basic BSc (N) and 25th batch of GNM 2020 at AJIMS auditorium, Kuntikana, here.

The programme began with an invocation dance followed by an accord of warm welcome to all the dignitaries by Florine, lecturer, LMCN. In traditional style, the programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. Harish, lecturer, LMCN, enlightened the audience on the significance of the day.

The chief guest for the day, Dr Darling Bibiana, principal, Shreedevi College of Nursing, Mangaluru along with Dr Larissa Martha Sams, principal, LMCN garlanded the portrait of Florence Nightingale as a mark of love and respect, lit the lamp and passed on the light of wisdom to the novice nurses. Gayathri, junior lecturer, LMCN, recited the pledge to the nursing students.

Unveiling the events of the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, Dr Theresa L Mendonca, vice-principal, LMCN highlighted the Nightingale Challenge 2020 the year of Nurse and Midwife. Inauguration of the bicentenary birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale was by Dr Darling Bibiana and Dr Larissa Martha Sams, LMCN, Mangaluru.

Dr Darling Bibiana addressed the gathering and stressed to the pledged nurses to learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of a person’s life. Be a light that helps others see, it is what gives life its deepest significance.

Dr Larissa Martha Sams, principal, congratulated the students on the silver jubilee year and motivated them to commit themselves to the noble profession by following the oath taken today.

Prashanth Shetty, vice-president, LMET, presided over the ceremony motivating the students to improve their knowledge and skills needed to provide quality patient care and also stressed upon the full support of the management in providing needed opportunities and resources as well as to help raise the profile of the nurses and bring out the best quality from the student nurses.

Nikku, junior lecturer, LMCN, proposed the vote of thanks followed by colourful cultural programmes by the students.
