Beltangady: Torrential Rains Creates Havoc to Life, Property

Beltangady, Oct 4: Torrential rains that lashed the district on Friday October 2 late night have taken away life of a person from Peradi village here in the taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev (32), son of Landa of kapu house. The incident happened when Sanjeev was returning home after work and heavily lashing rain resulted in him falling into a small stream near his residence and drwning away. His body was found a kilometer away from the place he drowned on Saturday October 3. Polive and revenue department officials have visited the spot.






Further as a result of rain havoc, the road connecting the bridge at Nadayihalli near Aladangady on Sulubettu road has collapsed. This has rendered over 100 houses in the area in isolation. The loose soil from the hill near Baraya palace has collapsed on to the road which has severed all connections to the area.

Except Puttur and Mangalore taluks, heavy rains lashed the taluks of Beltangady, Bantwal and Sullia on Saturday evening. In the district a house was completely damaged and two others have been partially damaged. The rivers, Netravati and Payaswini have swelled up. 

The torrential rains have affected fishing in the area. All the boats that were away on fishing have returned to the port, which has caused heavy losses to the fishermen. Meterological department has predicted torrential rains in the next 24 hours in the coastal belt.
