Mangalore: BGS Education Trust Decennial - Audiences Spellbound by Ashwath's Music

Mangalore, Oct 6: On the occasion of the decennial celebrations of the Bala Gangadhara Swamy (BGS) Education Trust's educational institutions functioning at Kavoor in the city, a musical evening was organized on Sunday October 4. Mellifluous and enchanting light songs presented by this gifted singer and his talented troupe of artistes succeeded in holding the audiences spellbound.

Earlier to the said programme, a stage programme that was organized, was presided by Udupi and Chikmagalur MP, D V Sadanand Gowda. Gowda said in his presidential address, that the state government has been putting in efforts to ensure that the education imparted to the students is value-based. While noting that an education backed by strong value-based fundamentals enables the students to achieve high in life, he hailed the BGS Education Trust for its contributions in this direction.

'Taranga' Kannada weekly executive editor, Sandhya Pai, who inaugurated the programme, expressed anguish at the tendency prevalent in the society, to suppress the hidden talents of the children in the name of providing them higher education, as the parents feel that pursuing courses which enable their wards to earn high and rise to positions of power, is the only purpose of imparting education. The purpose of education should be to provide a platform for the talents of the children to bloom, achieve their all round development and to make them society-centric, which we see in the institutions being run by the BGS trust, she added.

Chief Guest, Corporation Bank general manager, A Mohan Rao, also hailed the Trust for its yeoman services to the society and the field of education.

In his benedictory address, Sri Dharmapalanatha Swamiji, head of the city branch of the BGS Trust, said that lot of efforts go into setting up of the educational institutions and running them. Towards identifying those who have contributed immensely to this cause and to instill a sense of enthusiasm in them, a programme to felicitate ten achievers has been organized on the occasion, he said, and announced a contribution of Rs 10,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund from the Decennial Celebrations Committee fund, to help the people of the state, who are facing untold miseries because of heavy rains.

Dr Mohan Alva of Alva's Education Foundation, A J Shetty of A J Hospital and Research Centre, Dr Ramgopal Shetty of Dr M V Shetty Trust, Prof Abraham Vergese of Nelyady St George Education Trust, Tulunadu Education Trust president Prof M B Puranik, Canara High School Association president Dr U S Mohandas Nayak, Prasanna Education Trust president Gangadhar Gowda and  Yenepoya University chancellor Y Abdulla Kunhi, on whose behalf, Dr Mohammed Tahir accepted the felicitation, were honoured by the Swamiji, by draping shawls around them and presenting mementoes.

Jnanaratna Education Trust president Bhaskar Devasya and BGS high school head master Prakash were present. BGS College principal Srilata Rao welcomed. Decennial Celebrations Committee president, Dr Satish Kallimar, proposed vote of thanks. Vibha Menon presented the programme.
