Bahrain, Jan 27: The annual Konkani singing and elocution competition of Konkani Kutam, here was held at the Karnataka Social Club in the city on Friday January 24.
In its endeavour to promote and keep Konkani and culture alive in the hearts and minds of the people from coastal Karnataka, the competition hosted by Konkani Kutam, Bahrain for children, presently in its 19th year, saw 49 children contesting. The participation has been increasing year after year.
The competition was spearheaded by Ronald Fernandes, Walter Noronha, Stany D’Souza and Sanjay Sequeira as the event coordinators and ably compered by Felcy Fernandes. In the absence of Henry D’Almeida, the convenor, Stany D’Souza, the event coordinator in his message mentioned that Konkani Kutam Bahrain was proud to promote Konkani language and culture in Bahrain from its inception.
Both singing as well as elocution competition comprised of three categories of 4 to 8 years, 8 to 12 years and 12 to 18 years.

Winners were given away cash prizes and trophies. Consolation prizes were handed over to all the participants.
The singing competition was judged by popular chorister and singer Richard Pais, assistant parish priest Sacred Heart Church Bahrain, Fr Darel Fernandes and a talented young having background music and a popular keyboard player Deil Maven Bennis.
The elocution competition was judged by a popular public speaker and former area governor at Karnataka Club Toastmaster Bahrain Joseph Andrade, assistant parish priest Sacred Heart Church Bahrain, Fr Darel Fernandes and popular public speaker of toastmasters and a long resident of Bahrain Philomena D’Souza.
Ronald Fernandes rendered the vote of thanks. A sumptuous buffet dinner was served by Mysore Bhavan to everyone present.
