Udupi: Pejawar Math to Build Houses for Flood Victims
Udupi, Oct 15 (The Hindu): Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math said on Wednesday that the math would construct 200 houses in the flood-affected villages of north Karnataka at a cost of Rs. 2 crore.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, the swamiji said the houses would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1 lakh each and urged the Government to identify land for the houses. The math had already distributed clothes and foodgrains worth Rs. 6 lakh in the first phase of its rehabilitation programme in north Karnataka, he said.
The math had also set up a gruel centre in one of the villages, he added.
The seer said that he visited Mantralayam and the flood-affected villages in Bellary district.
He said that devotees continued to bring relief material to the math for distribution. He would visit Raichur and Bagalkot districts shortly to distribute the material, the seer said.
Thermal plant
The seer said that a meeting to debate the advantages and disadvantages of having a coal-based thermal power project at Yellur in Udupi district would be held here in November at which experts would participate.
