Mangalore: 'Let’s Explore New Horizons' - Manasa Manthana at St Aloysius

Mangalore, Oct 16: The inaugural function of Manasa Manthana 2009 –“Lets explore new Horizons” the  National level Paper Presentation competition on Recession Path Ahead organized by the MBA faculty of  AIMIT, St Aloysius College, Mangalore was held on 16th October at 9 a.m. It  began with overall presentation of history of Manasa Manthana in AIMIT. 

Dr. Sridhar, Dean of AIMIT welcomed all the guests and the gathering. Sumitha Achar the faculty Co-ordinator for the event gave a briefing on “Manasa Manthana” 2009. She highlighted how Manasa Manthana will help in developing the minds of youngsters. 

Dr. Mallikarjunappa, the chief guest for the function addressed the gathering and was delighted to inaugurate the event. “Everyone in the world, whether a professional, politician, or a common man is affected by the economic changes in the US”, he said. He attributed the recovery of past recessions to the policymakers. He also highlighted how the US economy grew from the various phases in its economy from recession, depression throughout History. He also spoke about the evolution of Financial Institution, and  how easy money credit helps in solving the problem of Recession and move towards economic growth. The reasons for recession and different approach to solve the problem were also addressed.





 Fr. Denzil Lobo, Director of AIMIT, explained the meaning of the term “Manasa Manthana” which means churning of mind. And it is through this churning of mind that the new ideas, that make a difference, are developed. For instance the ideas of Graham and Watson  who discovered The Telephone and how their invention has made difference in our lives today.

Fr. Leo D’souza  gave the presidential address by saying , recession is buzz word, all over the world today. And said difficulties in the economy like Recession will always be there but it is we who need to come up with novel ideas to come out of such situation. Mangalore is filled with high potential resources that can bring up changes and hence contribute towards the growth of the economy. And concluded with a message to generate ideas and prove how Mangalore can contribute to Bharath.

The inauguration ceremony came to an end after vote of thanks given by Mr. Deepak Sajjan, student coordinator for the event and followed by college anthem .

The inaugural was followed by paper presentations in Finance, Marketing and Human Resource. In all there were seventy papers, out of which only eighteen were selected for the presentation.  Some of the topics of papers were: “Micro Finance: Role Of Self Help Groups in Capital Formation”, “Does Foreign Direct Investment Promotes Economic Growth?” , “Commodity Derivatives Market in India” , “Mergers and Acquisitions-A lever for Business Excellence” in Finance; “A study on impact of Training and Development” , “Converting HR into a strategic Business Partner” , “Impact of recession on Training and Development” , “In midst of movement & chaos, the change is Evident” in HR and topics “A study  of evolution of retailing formats” , “Indian Rural Markets: Issues and Challenges for Corporates” , “Technological initiatives in rural market” , Retailing-Change in formats”, “Opportunities at the bottom of  the Pyramid” , “Marketing Models-Bottom of Pyramid” in Marketing.

Valedictory :


The valedictory function was graced by the presence of dignitaries, Fr. Denzil Lobo, Director of AIMIT, Fr. Swebert D’silva Principal of St. Aloysius College, Dr. Sridhar , Dean of AIMIT, Ms Sumitha Achar, faculty co-ordinator. The function began with the presentation on proceedings of the day proceeded by prayer. 


In the Directors address of the gathering, he stressed on taking up research and presenting papers. Fr. Swebert D’Silva SJ congratulated the whole team of Manasa manthana and thanked all for the success of Manasa manthana. The winners for the Manasa manthana were announced . The award for best Finance paper was awarded to Mr. Bharath. P of A. J Institute of Management (AJIM), who presented his paper on the topic “MICRO FINANCE: ROLE OF SELF HELP GROUPS IN CAPITAL FORMATION”. The award for best Human Resources paper was awarded to Ms Aparna Kamath, Institute of management and Educational Research on the topic  IMPACT OF RECESSION ON “TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT”. 

The award for best Marketing paper was backed by Ameet Chate of Karnatak Law Sociieties Institute of Management Educational Research who presented on the topic RETAILING- CHANGE IN FORMATS  and Guru Darshan of  Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), who presented on the topic “INDIAN RURAL MARKETS: ISSUES AND CHALLENGES FOR CORPORATES”. 

The award for overall best paper was awarded to Ameet Chate of Karnatak Law Societies Institute of Management Educational Research. The valedictory ceremony came to an end after vote of thanks given by Veeresh K, management club secretary and followed by National anthem .
