Mudigere: ‘Konkani Pathi’ Valedictory Sees Numerous Attendees

Mudigere, Oct 19: The valedictory ceremony of the three-day Konkani Pathi residential camp was held at St Anthony’s Parish Hall here on Sunday October 18.
The camp was jointly organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Konkani Rakan Sanchalan, Chikmagalur–Hassan, and Mandd Sobhann, Mangalore, to train students in the basics of Konkani and its rich culture and traditions.
Karnataka Konkani Academy president Narayan Kharvi Kundapur and LIC development officer J M Lobo were the chief guests.
Kharvi, speaking on the occasion, said that the collective efforts of Konkans, regardless of region, can strengthen the language. Meanwhile, he also urged the gathering to converse in Konkani whenever possible, so as to boost brotherhood.
Mudigere parish priest Fr Lancy Pinto, ‘Sevak’ Konkani family monthly editor Fr John Harry D’Souza, Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario, Konkani Rakan Sanchalan central committee president Cyril Rebello, Konkani Rakan Sanchalan Mudigere unit president Walter Lobo, electrical contractor P J Lobo, Jockim, coffee planter and businessman Arun Saldanha, Rita John, and coffee planter Henry Rebello, were the guests of honour present on the occasion.
Camp participants conducted a prayer hymn ahead of the stage programme. Smitha D’Souza Bankal and Larson Lobo Mudigere talked of their experiences at the camp.
Cyril Rebello felicitated ‘Sevak’ editor Fr Harry D’Souza.
Fr D’Souza acknowledged the honour and said that Konkani journals are essential for Konkans to keep abreast with the Konkani community worldwide. “It also encourages children to develop an interest in Konkani journalism”, he said.
Mudigere parish priest Fr Lancy Pinto in his message said that Konkani is facing setbacks owing to the lure of English and conversing in Kannada in daily life.
Traditional Mangalorean non-vegetarian delicacies were served to all after the programme which was attended by numerous parishioners.
Central committee president Cyril Rebello welcomed the gathering. Walter Lobo proposed the vote of thanks and Alwyn D’Souza compered the programme.
Nellu Permannur led the comedy troupe ‘Koroz’ in enthralling the audience with jokes and mimicry on the occasion.
