Mangalore, Oct 25: The DVD of Konkani comedy play ‘Bokro’ was released at Permannur Church on Sunday October 25 in a programme organized by Sudharana Sangha of Uliya-hoige as part of its silver jubilee year.

Fr Victor D’Souza, assistant parish priest, Permannur Church, inaugurated the programme and chief guest Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com, released the DVD.

Fr D’Souza speaking on the occasion said that Sudharana Sangha is only one organization in the church active in the social field by helping the poor with medical aid, educational assistance, and by bearing expenses.

“Such an organization should celebrate its centenary year and should continue in this manner. People through their own initiative started this organization to help the needy and it is a role model for others”, he said.

Walter Nandalike said that Permannur Church and the Sudharana Sangha, by giving importance to the artiste Nellu Permanuur, are doing a good job of encouraging an artiste of their own.

“It is wonderful that the church is supporting him by hosting his dramas and encouraging him at every step”, added Walter, who also felicitated Nellu. He praised the efforts of Nellu in the field of Konkani drama.

Sr Stella, principal, Holy Cross Institution at Permannur, Hari Tellis, Godwin Pinto from Catholic Sabha, and Arun D’Souza, president, Sudharana Sangha, also spoke on the occasion.

The drama written by Nellu was presented by Manoranjan Mangalore. It was directed by Felix Lasrado. Sathish Surathkal is the music director and Onil Vegas Bangalore composed the music.

The cast, who are members of Asal Kalakar, comprised of Felix Lasrado, Nellu Permannur,  Alvyn C Vegas, Melly Valencia, Abraham Pashan, David Soaj, Master Shaan Rodrigues, Leena Crasta, Dimple Pinto, Selin Soaj, and Saviya Montero.

I am happy to see my favorite playwright Nellu's drama being unveiled on DVD. I have always believed that Konkani theater will emerge as a strong medium only if it is available to the masses in the form of soft media. Konkani speakers are spread all over the world and soft media is an effective way to reach them. I hope more artistes will follow his example and I wish the Konkani theater fraternity the very best in all their endeavours.
