Mangalore, Nov 7: All India Radio Mangalore has won two state level ‘Programme Excellency Awards’ for the year 2009, in the musical feature and documentary feature categories.

Florine Roche, transmission executive of the local station of All India Radio, has won her maiden ‘Programme Excellency Award’ for the musical feature she produced in connection with the birth centenary of Ammembal Dinakar Rao, a great musician, composer and a pioneer in music broadcasting in India. The script was written in Kannada by Gurudutt Baliga and the feature was broadcast over all the 13 All India Radio stations in Karnataka on September 22, 2009.
Concepta Fernandes (Alva) has won the award for the documentary feature on the life and contributions of ‘Konkan Kogul,’ Wilfy Rebimbus, to Konkani music. The script in Kannada for this feature was written by H R Alva, and the programme had been broadcast over all the 13 All India Radio stations across Karnataka on July 30, 2009. This is the third ‘Programme Excellency Award’ for Concepta in her 20 year-long career with All India Radio. She had won the national award in 1990 for the Konkani documentary feature on the folk percussion instrument, ‘Gumot’, state level award for Kannada play, ‘Bhinnamatha’ (Script- K T Gatti, renowned Kannada author), in 1998 and once again this year, for a Kannada documentary feature.
These two awards have come as good news, and brought a sense of pride, for the Konkani community. Both the featured musicians hail from Konkani communities of the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, who dedicated their lives for the cause of music, both the programmes were written and produced in Kannada by Konkani people, and were broadcast over the entire Karnataka state, having a reach of over five crore people.
