Bidar, Mar 6: The district and sessions court in Bidar declared that the play performed by students of Shaheen Primary School in Bidar, themed on protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), has not caused any "disharmony in the society". 

Anticipatory bail was granted to five management representatives of Shaheen Primary School.

The school management landed in soup after the alleged seditious play on CAA was performed by students on January 21. One of the girls who enacted a senior citizen said that if someone comes asking for documents, they need to be hit with slippers.

The play created quite a stir and a sedition case was booked. The school students and management were continuously questioned, which caused an uproar across the nation.

The headteacher and mother of the student who spoke the dialogue were sent to custody but on other charges including the abetment of an offence.

However, on Thursday, the court declared, "The drama has not caused any disharmony in the society. Considering all the circumstances, I am of the opinion that the ingredients of Section 124A of IPC (Sedition) are prima facie lacking.”

"What the children have expressed is that they will have to leave the country if they do not produce the documents and except that, there is nothing to show that the school has committed the offence of sedition," district judge Managoli Premavathi observed while granting bail to members of the school management charged with sedition.

The dialogue does not lead to hate or contempt towards the government, the judge stated in her order.
