Mangaluru, Mar 9: Superintendent of police (SP) B M Laxmi Prasad urged women to join bureaucracy to tackle problem faced by women in the society.

He was speaking at an interaction programme which was held at the Ladies Club, Light House Hill Road, on Sunday, March 8. The programme was conducted on the eve of International Women's Day by Citizen’s Forum Mangaluru.

“Police department is a male dominated department where the government has taken necessary measures to address the problems faced by women forces. In order to bring gender equality, women need to join bureaucracy which will help women to tackle problems faced by them,” he said.

When asked about casual approach by police towards complaints of women, Laxmi Prasad said, “Lot of problems are faced by women in the society such as eve teasing, atrocities and many more. There are many police stations which are not people-friendly and certain changes have to be done. Parents or relatives restrict a girl to file a complaint in case of eve teasing to avoid insult and no one wants to approach police as it takes long for judicial procedures.”

The participants also urged inclusion of subjects on women empowerment and gender equality in education from schools which will help children to treat everyone equally from young age.

Social activist Vidya Dinaker and founder principal of Roshni Nilaya Dr Olinda Periera was also present.
