Kuwait halts flights, declares public holiday for two weeks amid coronavirus scare

Kuwait, Mar 12: Starting from Thursday, March 12, all government and private companies will be closed down for a period of two weeks. The normal work operations will resume only on Sunday, March 29 as per the decision taken by the council of ministers of this Gulf nation as a precaution to combat the fast-spreading Covid-19
epidemic.

In addition, no flights will take off from the airport starting from Friday, March 13 said an announcement made by the council. The flight operations will be kept suspended till further notice. Travel will be restricted only to citizens of the country and their first degree relatives.

People are barred from entering halls of cafes and restaurants. This includes even the ones operating inside the shopping malls. All kind of clubs and health related institutes are also asked to be closed down as there is a chance of people gathering at such places and chances of the infection getting spread is more.

    People,

    As long as Companies pay salaries to the workers during shut down...I don't mind ....any way they don't work much in Government offices since almost all Kuwaitis work in Government....this is my experience folks ...I worked there before!!!...

    One of my batch mate of 1986, Engineer Ministry Of Communications , Kuwait , Nabeel Bin Salaama later on became Minister Of Communication and acting minister of Oil of Kuwait in 2009....

    Flavi, go to Shuwaikh Communication Center, behind that there is Old Shuwaikh exchange, he was sitting there when he was Chief Engineer & Assistant Under Secretary in 1996, if you can get his Mobile number, send me , I will talk to him and ask him why they banned flights to India....I think I met him last there in 1996... he has Bachelor of Electronic Engineering from the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA. He was having beard of more than a feet then...now I think he has trimmed it..

    I feel sorry for the people of Kuwait especially the expatriates who are working hard and this coronavirus has caused a lot of problem all over the world. Kuwait government has taken the right step in preventing this COVID-19 from spreading. Already many people have been killed and many are admitted to various hospitals in isolation wards. Prevention is better as there is no cure for this disease so far.

    Huge business loss. However these oil rich countries will recover soon whereas India has gone back for another 3 years. 5 trillion will be a dream for another 15 years.
