Mangalore: Vigilante Attack Near Vamanjoor Lands Three Students in Hospital

Mangalore, Nov 15: In a vigilante attack in a private bus near Vamajoor, five students from a college in Yedapadav were beaten up as they were traveling to the city on Sunday November 15.
The students included two girls and three boys who were traveling to the city enroute Hassan for a sports tournament. The physical director of the college was at the railway station and had gone early to reserve tickets. He had asked the students to come to the railway station by bus.
The injured have been identified as Mohammad Rizwan, Sadik, and Rasheed, who are all students of Vivekanada Junior College, Yedapadav. All three are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.
The girls were also beaten up by the miscreants. It is said that they were attacked because of their inter-religious friendships.
Vamanjoor turned tense after the incident and shops were closed immediately after a group of people damaged the bus. Police were deployed in the area.
The attack occurred near Vamanjoor and the miscreants had followed the bus from Kaikamba. They stopped the bus by blocking its path with two bikes.
The vigilante group had five or six people who are residents of Kaikamba near Gurupur.
Rizwan said that the attackers spoke coarse language and alleged that the students were involved in love affairs. Rizwan denied the allegation.
It is suspected that the attackers are from the Bajrang Dal, but no one from the organization has confirmed this as yet.
The situation is now under control and a complaint has been registered at Mangalore rural police station.
