Karnataka extends coronavirus lockdown till March 31

Bengaluru, Mar 18 (IANS): The Karnataka government has extended the lockdown in the state to counter coronavirus by nine days till March 31, Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa told the Assembly on Wednesday.

"The week-long lockdown in the state, since March 14, has been extended till March 31 to contain the fallout of Covid-19 on the people," Yediyurappa told the members after the decision was taken at an emergency cabinet meeting here.

All malls, pubs, theatres, multiplexes, clubs and others will continue to remain shut till the month end to prevent people from gathering in large numbers.

The cabinet has also decided to set up a task force to tackle the pandemic.

Headed by state Health Minister B. Sriramulu, it will have Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar, Deputy Chief Minister C. N. Ashwathnarayan, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Chief Secretary T. M. Vijay Bhaskar as its members and meet daily to review the situation.

"The cabinet has decided to earmark Rs 200 crore for meeting the expenditure on Covid-19," Yediyurappa said.

Many workplaces are still forcing employees to come to the office and work. There's still no awareness about the seriousness and scale of how bad this can get!

Without this scare business is down in every mall, by closing them the govt. is dealing them a death blow, It could've been imposed only in those places where viral cases had been spreading.
I've seen many retired people buying in some malls with their cards to get extra discount, now they are left in limbo, the govt could have announced it after giving them time ( some days)to buy some groceries & essentials they need for a month.
If all people follow the instructions by medical professionals then no need for these drastic measures & these measures might not be the right approach too. One soldier in Leh is reported to be positive for the virus, I wonder whether he was with some one with infection, if not then it is false positive by the test kit which is known to give 1 in 100 tests.

Panic is accentuated by these measures,
Did we close our borders or malls for a flu or cold virus?
If same type & with same mortality rate of Corona calls for these drastic steps, then something fishy is going on, some of our doctors are exposing the same. Just wait for a few more months & vaccines will hit the market & countries will be forced to buy them by WHO, who is the beneficiary of this drama will soon get revealed.

Dev, Mangalore this is a good move by the govt. As Mr Mohammad said in his comment health comes first. Whatever losses we human being had can cover it later. If health itself not there whats the use of money we lost or gained?

These are the right measures being taken. Italy did not do this and they are worse than China today. We still have around 30 days before we step into stage 3 , which means we have only so much time. If the infection is not contained where it has to be stopped from spreading in the local community we are doomed. And the Leh soldier incident, his father is positive as he had Iran travel history recently.
