Mangalore, Nov 23: As per a complaint filed with the Suratkal policemen, Ratnakar Devadiga, whose family has been conducting the puja and other rituals of Sri Chamundeshwari Daivasthana located behind the Lord Mahaganapati Temple of Ganeshpuranear Suratkal, has said that valuables worth Rs 7.5 lac (present value about Rs 15 lac) were stolen from the Daivasthana on the night of Saturday November 21.

The thieves opened the front door of the Daivsthana by yanking open the brass rod protecting the door, and then cutting open the lock of the sanctum sanctorum. The priest of the Daivasthana had gone home after 10 pm on Saturday, and the members of Devadiga’s family had to come out of their house from the rear door, as the thieves had bolted the front door from outside, the complaint says.  The thieves have succeeded in executing the theft without the people living in houses around the Daivasthana getting alerted.

The sniffer dogs found a brass mask of the serpent god and a iron rod abandoned by the thieves in the neighbourhood. Deputy superintendent of police, Girish, Suratkal police station in-charge, Belliappa K U etc., visited the spot.
