B'luru: Holidays for teachers extended till April 11, private schools barred from collecting fees

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Mar 30: Due to the lock down announced by the union government in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, holiday was declared to school teachers till March 31. Now the period is extended to April 11 by the education department.

This information was shared by primary and secondary education minister Suresh Kumar. Teachers are advised not to go to any places other than their centers. They are also instructed to carry out any office work given by the school authorities.

"We are getting complaints from parents and guardians that some schools have already started collecting fee for the academic year 2020-21, which has created inconvenience to the parents. The admissions for the 2020-21 academic year is postponed. No school should carry out the admission process now and also should not collect fee," said Suresh Kumar.

It is also directed by the education department to the school administrative committees to withdraw any instructions given to the parents with regard to payment of fee and admission process. Otherwise criminal case will be filed against them, said the authority. In addition, Suresh Kumar warned that the recognition of such institutes will be cancelled.

    Dear Honorable Education Minister,
The Union Labour Department has directed all institutions and organisations not to withhold or cur salaries, not to remove or retrench any staff because of this lock-down. Yes, Accepted and the direction is accepted. But tell us, how do you expect the private organisations to pay salaries to their staff especially now in private schools who not receive any grant from your government - state or central..? Do you plan to stop salaries of government teachers in schools under your care..? if so kindly pass a circular to all of us and we will abide by your directions. Or kindly grant subsidy to all the private schools so that at least the private staff - teaching and non teaching would be paid their dues. Please when you make decisions, do with some logic and rationale behind them.9751

I agree with this gentleman's comment. If salary should be paid for April/May, these two months' fee should be collected like all years. If no fees should be collected, the government should compensate with applicable amount to pay the salary. Else teaching staff won't be paid for April /May. Otherwise the government shouldn't meddle with how the institutions function.

No private entity can afford to pay the wages when the production is forced to shut. Let the government take up the responsibility of payment. Our taxes are for utilising wisely. Not for bailing out sick banks that are facing losses due to excessive lending to corporates.

Occupy educated staff to advise you suitably.

Do one more favour : Cancel for good all postponed exams of all grades and let them apply their previous exams marks for issuing the certificate.

A lot of stress will be saved for our students and this year will be remembered in history.
