Mangalore, Dec 6: Thousands of people witnessed a special event ‘Kadala Baritha Gobbulu’ (Kadala Parba), showcasing the traditional games played on the seashore, held at Chitrapura beach on Sunday December 6.

It was organized by the Mogaveera Yuva Vedike, ahead of the World Tulu Convention.

The event was inaugurated by Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmastala and honorary president of the Convention by offering milk to the sea.

A boat race, a tug-of-war in the sea for men and women, a swimming competition, as well as contests in using the net for fishing, weaving of fishing nets, and walking with a head load, were organized as part of the programme.

Along with the competitions, a fight on the sea was organized to commemorate the struggle of legendary Tulunadu ruler Rani Abbakka against British rule.

Popular Tulu singer Mime Ramdas and his team performed several Tulu songs during the function. Students of Sri Dharmastala Manjunatheswara Law College presented a programme depicting Tulu culture.

The traditional style of fishing was demonstrated and seafood cuisine was on sale and for exhibition in several stalls along the seashore.

The function concluded with a prize distribution programme in the evening. Dr Heggade, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, and office-bearers of Mogaveera Yuva Vedike were present.

The most saddening fact is In Tulu The invitattion should have been written as Matheragla swagatha, instead of sarverege swagatha. sarverege is a kannada made tulu word. Please use Tulu my fiends

The fest was really good. but I felt that there should have been more cultural programs on stage in the evening. Also we could see lack of practice with the stage performers. Other than this all the events held were really awesome and we should thank the organizers for the discipline maintained. Also the fest was a good platform for all the Tuluvas to meet. I really thank & congratulate the organizers for their efforts on making this event a success.

Thanks Daiji sharing a beautiful event of Mogaveer tradition of DK. Although I was born and brought up in Mangalore, I had never seen such an event, may be due to lack of media coverage. I appreciate bringing the events to our life since we are all spread around the world. I thank you again and wish you and your staff a great success in your media venture.

Coastal Karnataka has immense natural resource/backwater/beaches /talent more than our neighboring state Kerala. They promoted the state " God's Own Country" in International way and tourism development . Karnataka lack such support . Now it is time to look ahead & make our state /Coastal Karnataka . God's Own Country . Great Job & initiation by Dr Veerendra Hegde
