Mangalore, Dec 6: “The media has become important in our day to day life with the purpose of imparting education, awareness, and entertainment, but forgetting these may lead to danger and will affect society”, said Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza on Sunday December 6.
Presiding over ‘A Three-fold Celebration’, organized to mark the 100th episode of ‘Daivik Sakath’, a television programme produced by Fathima Retreat House, the Bishop said that the media has helped people listen and view good programmes such as this.
“But sometimes the sensationalizing of some news and illegal activities has made the media go beyond the basic causes”, he said.
“Even though a major part of the media is serving society, there is a doubt that living without media is not possible”, added the Bishop.
Oscar Fernandes, former union minister and general secretary of Indian National Congress party, said, “Watching Daivik Sakath programmes and the holy words may lead us to live happily”.
Fernandes launched the website www.daiviksakat.org on the occasion.
Justice Michel F Saldhanha, retired judge, Karnataka High Court, said that he will join hands for Daivik Sakath as a tribute to his hometown which has helped him in many ways.
