Kochi: Kerala High Court Finds Substance in ‘Love Jehad’ Theory
Daijiworld Media Network – Kochi (SP)
Kochi, Dec 9: Kerala High Court has said that there are indications to believe that forcible religious conversions are taking place in Kerala in the guise of love. It has asked the state government to enforce laws that ban such covert operations.
“Forcible or deceitful religious conversion in the name of love is improper,” it observed.
Justice K T Shankaran of the High Court expressed this opinion, while dismissing anticipatory bail applications moved by two persons, who are accused of taking part in ‘Love Jehad’ activities.
“On perusal of the police reports in ‘Love Jehad’ cases, it is found that continued efforts are going on to convert girls of a particular community to another, with the blessings of certain organizations,” he added.
The court said that the statistics have revealed that during the last four years, three to four thousand religious conversions have taken place in the state through the route of love alone.
