Mysuru, Apr 18: Jubilant Generics factory at Nanjangud has a lion's share in the coronavirus positive cases in Karnataka. After the infection was first detected in one of its employees, the same has spread among many.

The infected person had denied any connections with the Chinese during repeated questioning sessions. The police who went into his travel history came to know that he had contact with a Chinese man. Till now, how the person from this factory contracted the disease had remained a mystery as he denied having visited foreign country, having come in contact with any foreign national and having contact with any infected person. From him, a number of employees got the disease, and all the employees have been quarantined.

After doubts were expressed about the containers of medicinal raw materials received by the company from China having coronavirus infection, some spare parts of the container were sent to the laboratory at Pune for testing. Karnataka additional director general of police, Dr Parashivamurthy, has clarified that the laboratory has confirmed that the container did not have any infection.

As the company and the employee denied knowledge about how the infection came, the work was handed over to the police. The police who went into travel history came to know that he had contact with a Chinese man but what kind of contact and why the two met is not clear as that man did not represent any specific company or country, it is said. The police suspect that he would have been sharing information about pharma with the person and the meeting would have been kept a secret. Because he had not revealed about this connection in spite of repeated questioning.

This finding can change the course of investigation into the way the employees of Jubilant Pharma got the disease. About 60 persons have contracted the infection through him so far. The company has been insisting that officially the employee did not travel to China, nor was he deputed there by the company and that he did not have any Chinese connection.
