Mangaluru: Border confusion gifts Karnataka petrol bunk to Kerala

Mohan Kuthar

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Apr 25: Due to confusion over the land on which a Covid-19 check post of Kerala stood, joint survey work of the border between Karnataka and Kerala states, which had been abandoned many years ago, was resumed in a hurry on Thursday. During the survey, the officials found that three fourth of the land occupied by a petrol bunk that was a part of Karnataka for the last fifty years, has become part of Kerala.

The petrol pump was functioning at lower Talapady for the last several years. Nearly 40 buses plying between Mangaluru and Talapady were buying diesel under Karnataka rates. Bunk owners were paying taxes after obtaining license from Karnataka.

The confusion began after Talapady gram panchayat alleged that Kerala police and health department had set up a temporary Covid-19 check post on Karnataka land. As the district administrations of both the states directed their officials to conduct joint survey to settle the issue, the surveyors got busy conducting survey work during entire Thursday. But the survey proved costly for Karnataka.

The report states that the check post of Kerala police also is in their land. Survey work could have been avoided as it was only a temporary check post. Talapady citizens lament that they lost the land that was part of the village since several decades, on account of an issue which could have been easily sorted out without complications by the two states.

Our family migrated to Kerala, we got quality free education and we are well settlee compared to our family members who are in Udupi. Keralites have treated us well. Where in Karnataka our govt is not at all concerned about people, no quality free education nor people asking for it.

Atleast stop these small disputes and focus on nation building, such silly stuffs will only break the nation. Divide and rule is a political agenda.

Oh you didnt know? They have their cyber gang along with normal keralites coming out in planned organized manner whenever these things happen (only online cos they run away if its not online)....to spread their planned activities. They smile when they work in our states but inside this is what they are. Many of them, most. Not all but most. Activities to spit at other states, spit at hindu systems, spit at anything modi, spit at northies etc...to claim that 'other states are illiterate and low class' cos we voted for modi we are illiterates!...if anyone likes hinduism spit at them!, or if any border problem comes or other factors iv mentioned earlier. Its a cunning planned activity headed by two main groups there. The commies n mussies. They spit at us while at the same time most of them come to our states for jobs and education...cos they dont have good jobs there. Unbelievable. No jobs, no companies yet we should learn from their literacy (10th pass avg is where they are ahead in the nation, not higher). For higher education, ther are other states who are better. This ganging up..Its a normal thing. You can see this plan, these gangs online to spit , also for social media shaming of important personalities if anyone voices against their bias. Their plans are not strange anymore, its exposed. Their govt hatred is also exposed. Not a secret anymore. They are so venomous that when abroad, these mussies will inform authorities to make sure a fellow hindu keralite will be arrested if he shows his passion for hindus. Then they will shame him and warn him that 'this is not your india' and then grin. This is the venom they have! to their own people and other states! Its all planned. Appears strange that suddenly how come mny have come here! Lol, u just watch...this happens all over online. If u see a number ofvthem ranting, its part of this planned group.

Every state has got its model of development and there is no single model that is absolute and right. Kerala’s development is centred on human welfare and does not thrive on crony capitalism. We have a society that consists of all religions but speaks one language and the Kerala society gets sync with the Government in case of any calamity irrespective of their individual political lineage. The way we handled two floods, Nipah and now Covid stands testimony to our big hearts. In some still thinks, it is a small state with small thinking, we are leaving it to the figment of his imagination as we Keralites stands for freedom of thought and expression. If India today is a pluralistic country, much owes to Kerala as people of all faiths first came in this part of the country.

What British economist told about Kerala Covid measures stands ample testimony for the Kerala model. “Kerala's COVID-19 response has been humane, caring and successful.....It puts the so-called "first world" to shame. This is what happens when you have a society that is organised around the welfare of humans rather than around the welfare of capital."

Those who are worrying about the spelling and the grammar, I agree to one of the Kannadiga reader’s comments other day on DW, “LiterateD does not mean Educated” I am sure you all are not only LiterateD but also educated. Also some amount of fuel can be reserved when you want to order next time the Kerala delicacy “Pazham Pori” which you will not able to pronounce correctly unless you take rebirth here.

Nothing wrong in it... coz as indians we are allowed to migrate to any part of the country. But for god sake stop claiming that your state is No.1 in everything...

Keralites have migrated for ages because of our large coastline, and open and adventurous freespirit. Simultaneously, if the Arabs of earlier centuries had to trade with Kerala for its spices and timber, it only meant that Keralites might have gone to those lands prior, and made initial contact for trade. If St Thomas and the Portuguese as well, had to make contact with Keralites, it obviously meant we had something to offer...and we are extremely proud that our fellow malayalis are there all over the world to help any other malayali (of any caste, creed or religion) who might choose to migrate for his/her own reasons.. Our strength is our unity.
We don't see this in other Indian states unfortunately.

You go to other places for jobs because u have coastline!??? Hahahaha. What kind of a reason is that. Thats the stupidest answer ever. See im also a muslim but dont try your tricks here like you do there, we live very well with hindus or xtians or sikhs. We dont speak against them like you do there. We also respect hindus if they dont like a food and we eat it without advertising. You guys even lecture me on improving my islamic habits. Felt like slapping you guys fr thesecreasons many times.
Coastline! 😂You come to our cities and gulf because you have 'no jobs or good companies'. Period. Every single keralite i ask have plans only to go out of their state. Getting sslc literacy rate no.1 in india will not make u no.1. Work properly and make companies instead of all the time saying im in that course or this. Iv seen this. V v lazy to work. Just wants to pass courses n shout politics all the time. Coastline is big so you migrate! What a joke. You think all humans are idiots? No jobs, will run to other places yet spitting at others. Your state is in a very sorry level when it comes to employment and financial resources. Say thanks to god that you have a small population else it would have been more hellish. Big coastline! What a reason

    Dear Srikar / Roshan,

We never claimed Kerala to be No. 1 in all aspects or the best state. But then the State is good in many aspects. Though the average income is not high, the social indicators are comparable to the developed countries be it the achievement in education, literacy, health care, high life expectancy, low infant mortality, low birth rate, women empowerment, land reforms etc. Kerala is culturally diverse and socially unified. The greatest unifying factor was single language spoken by people irrespective of different cultures. Many other states with single language could not achieve this because Kerala built social infrastructure thanks to Communism when others built materialistic infrastructure. Since most of the people are literate and almost everyone reads newspaper (where literacy matters more than education) the communication is easier and people easily gets in sync with the State’s objectives.

The problem with Karnataka or many other states is that people are not as politically literate as Kerala and does not demand performance from their legislators. A classic example is when Karnataka closed Bandipur, we got Kannur Yeswanthpur train... Karnataka got another train from Mangalore to Yeswanthpur via Mysore but Kerala got it extended to Kannur and that is the political will power of the legislators. Please understand all these happened when the Central Government is ruled by their political adversaries. What happened in Talapady is nothing but the same. For Karnataka’s inefficiency, do not blame Kerala.

It's the whole thought process that we are superior than rest of them is annoying.. don't ever deny it, ur statement above regarding ur delicacy is an example too.. u think ur language is superior, ur appearance, ur land, people.. never heard anybody nagging of these things in India ever.. Kerala is a very small state so compare it with Tripur, Mizoram.. u people have cultural similarity from North to south ,language, food etc unlike Karnataka, we have close to 7 to 8 languages, everything here is diverse so off course it's not easy..
Yeah coming to ur flood people thoughout India, donated/spread awareness through out the globe hence u did receive a lot of donation.. I even attended charity function in Belgium wer the funds were provided as releif Fund... But wen there were flood in Karnataka u people don't even care..

This is the problem with kannadigas.. You guys are uninformed or prefer to stay that way. There were many medical teams sent from kerala to Coorg District during the floods there. Some are part of NGOs and Independent initiatives. I myself took part in one of those. Besides karnataka, during chennai floods, there were state buses plying with relief materials from kerala to Chennai on a daily basis. Refer 'anpodu chennai' campaign. In mangalore itself the colleges collected funds for flood relief and I know few people who donated lacs into it. Even I gave my one month salary for the initiative. So please don't undermine the hearts of such people who had helped the needy without caring the borders.

We never claimed ourselves as superior or considered anybody inferior. We have always accepted people of all belief systems. We might be a small state in area, but we stand far ahead than other states in social indicators; which is an established fact whether you can stand it or not. Karnataka’s impediment is not only multiple languages, but also it's failure to develop social infrastructure. Successive Governments have invested only in physical / material infrastructure without building social infrastructure. For eg. You will find many good buses, and many more people in the bus stops (who can’t read the route board on the bus) who keep asking “Ee bus Udupige popunda” etc.... And if you think education and literacy are crap, be with it, the situation will remain as it is for another good number of years if everyone thinks like you. And also to those who do not want Keralites as students there, please ask all the Educational institutes in DK / Udupi to close their canvassing offices / agents in Kerala, especially in North Kerala.

Regarding flood management, what I intended (though not elaborated) was the way the rescue efforts were carried out by the people helping each other which has nothing to do with the donations. Nevertheless thanks for your donations. Opportunists are also those who work in Gulf and keep blaming the GCC countries and I need not name them, you know them better.

Yeah, over smartness is too bad. Check the covid result in Karnataka n Kerala. Karnataka has more number of cases, more death tolls n less recovery than Kerala. So better don’t underestimate the power of common state.

Karnataka gained absolutely nothing by fighting with Kerala over the border closure, in fact it has lost plenty.
    1. Tata group is set to built a state of the art specialty hospital with all the facilities in Kasargod, everything is in full pace ; Mangalore hospitals are gonna lose a major chunk lot of revenue which mostly comes from the bordering districts such as Kasargod patients, plus the dependent departments are also gonna suffer.
    2. Karnataka lost it's land which it has previously occupied in the Lower Talapady.
3.The number of active COVID cases in Karnataka is 304, whereas in Kerala it is now 116. Clearly Kerala has seen a drastic improvement unlike it's neighbouring state.
The more Karnataka tries to hinder it's relationship with it's neighbouring state , the worse it's outcome will be .

Karnataka BJP Govt /admin. thought they are more smarter then kerala .
Kerala hs done their homework & studied well.
They already were aware that land belongs to them but waited for the right opportunity .
Karnataka could have sealed in a better way.

    Shaffi,

So, this time, when school/colleges start after lock-down, can we Mangaloreans assume no Keralite students in our universities/colleges/Medical institutions ?

That would be a relief. We donate you a Petrol Pump, you please take away your families settled in Karnataka. I am fed up with a neighbour stealing construction materials stocked at our site for building a house. You guess a neighbour - who ???

Oh yes, but when states don't make facilities to its people, they clog neighboring areas and become a menace.

We Kannadigas need to fight for our admission in schools, jobs in hospitals, availability of land/houses at affordable rates (because these people have already bought at exorbitant rate). But only thing they can't do is treat their patient when an epidemic breaks out. They want to be done by the neighbour state. However, airports ? They will build ten in their state.

Right to stay anwhy in India, right !

Kodial or Kudla is Mangaladevi's Town. Maybe called Mangaluru, Mangalapuram or Mangalore, as the case may be. The exodus of Keralites from Kodial/ Kudla will take time (if it does happen) and will not be overnight.

Also ask the people of Kodaku district to stop coming to Kannur. Last week itself, many people illegally came to Kerala for treatment, through the forest.
LOL! When there aren't enough eligible graduates in Karnataka, people from other states will occupy those seats or vacancies in the institutions in Karnataka. These institutions don't look the state, but money or educational qualifications or experience. As long as eligible people are more from Kerala, they will occupy those places!
