Bengaluru, Apr 30: Industries across Karnataka barring those located in Corona containment zones can function from May 4 onwards as per a decision taken by the State Cabinet at its meeting Bengaluru on Thursday, April 30.

The State Cabinet at its meeting presided over by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa indicated that the industries located in industrial estates, industrial parks and special economic zones located in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi and Mangaluru and other cities of the state can resume production from Monday.

The extended lockdown following the COVID 19 pandemic is scheduled to end on May 3.

Yediyurappa, however, made it clear that “based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directions, stringent lockdown measures (in red zones) will be continued. Revival of economic activity will go hand in hand.”

A couple of days ago, the State Government permitted industries located in rural areas of 14 districts to operate their production activities.

Hair dressing saloons, barber shops, hotels, malls, cinemas and modes of mass transport will continue to remain closed after May 3.

The Chief Minister said parcel of food items was allowed in hotels.

“Opening of malls and hotels is not an option before us right now,” Yediyurappa said.

Decision on opening liquor shops after May 3

He said a decision on opening of liquor shops would be taken after May 3 based on the Centre’s guidelines.

Yediyurappa said the State Cabinet has also decided to allow one-time inter-state or inter-district movement of people and migrant laborers stranded in different places.

"This would help students and migrants who wanted to return to their native states or districts as a measure to help the migrant workers to reach their native places,’’ he said.

The people from Karnataka residing in other states would be allowed to return only if they are tested negative for Covid-19.

The Stare Government would arrange buses and would not bear the travelling cost, he said.

Sir, liquor shops generate the maximum revenue for the state; Karnataka already lost 150 crores+ in 1 month! If you know, KSRTC is not able to pay salaries due to lack of funds; if closure continues economic condition of govt will worsen further!

Cynthia, very right; but by banning official sale of booze, for the govt it'll be impossible to manage the show because it's their largest cash cow!
Moreover, tipplers will start buying in black, distilling at home, or drinking hooch; all excise money will make the blackmarketeers, bootleggers, & corrupt officials rich!!
Anything, which is banned generates m maximum interest!

Approximately 1,50000 deaths/year in road accidents; if you add all other mortalities like diseases, malnutrition, prenatal, postnatal, starvation, infectious diseases, endemic diseases like malaria, dengue etc the figure goes up very substantially!!

There are lot's of two wheeler accidents resulting in death and permanent disability for thousands of people. Did we ban them?

Look at UAE, they have opened up almost every business except Malls. Every country in the world is doing this because they know that with social distancing , proper hygiene covid-19 can be controlled.

If immediate action in restarting the econonmy is not started there will be thousands of death becaused of hunger, sucicide .etc
