Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 1: District administration of Dakshina Kannada is making preparations to control the coronavirus pandemic once the lockdown is relaxed and permission is given for commercial activities to begin and also for the free movement of people.

Marathon meetings are being held with all departments by Ponnuraj, district-in-charge secretary and Covid Nodal officer since the last two days. The main point of discussion is handling the situation after lockdown relaxation after May 3.

As per rational estimate it will take at least two months for the life to come back to normalcy in Dakshina Kannada district after the end of lockdown period. Apart from the guidelines given by the central and state governments, the district administration is also mulling to take action concerning coronavirus pandemic picture of the district.

Once the lockdown is relaxed, all medical college hospitals and private hospitals are instructed to admit patients only after Covid-19 check-up. Under this precaution, if the patient is found to be positive for Covid-19, then the question of sealing down of the whole hospital does not arise. Only the ward in which the concerned patient is admitted needs to be sealed.

Health workers are visiting houses to detect coronavirus infection and also to give health information. First phase of the visit has been already completed. In the second phase, they are going to cover around six lac families in the district.

As complimentary to this, there is proposal of forming team of interested young health workers. This team will be at village or ward level. Interested people can join voluntarily. They will be given suitable training by health officers. This team will give information to people about virus infections, including coronavirus. The sketch of such teams is being readied and will be finalised soon.

Ponnuraj, nodal officer of Dakshina Kannada district said, "Government and people representatives are fighting against coronavirus pandemic. Accordingly, public also has to contribute and aware against virus infections. It is possible to keep around 80% of infections at bay if this is followed. Some rules in this respect are being prepared."

there is lock down or not, there is restriction or not, there is new cases or not... its our own responsibility to protect our self by following social distancing, sanitizing, wearing mask and gloves, most importantly not to step out of house if not really necessary........

govt cant come behind each and every one and tell dos and donts.......

    we too have responsibility too......

First of all ...LET US ALL BE POSITIVE.
To the people who are criticizing the governemt, keep in mind that this is a big country with a big population and a majority of the population dont follow rules.
The government has done a great job by enforcing the lockdown and brought down the numbers in a way it can be controlled.
Even the current number of cases are mostly evolved out of people who failed to follow rules.
(Example:The Bantwal case..... when a person has returned from dubai and his family has to be careful,...they go around mingling with neighbours, relatives..)

Now the government is taking steps to come out with a plan.
Let us support the plan and be responsible and adapt to the plan.

Anything is possible and we can over come this.
When china can do it, why cant india.

Stop being negative and be responsible.

In case of emergencies you'll have to admit and carry out the procedure in one hour. That's the golden hour for strokes and heart attacks. After that it is of no use.

You are very right, but the entry of CORONA transmission in the picture has made every medical procedure very defensive! You might have read what, unexpectedly, happened in FN, which was a very excellent medical centre specialised in Neuro & Spine problems!!

The procedure as mentioned is not so easy as said; there are many important practical issues out here & these need to be ironed out!
Corona is now found to be a notorious & tricky virus! It's transmission can also occur through eyes & feco-oral route!
    Firstly detection kits are unpredictable:
Rapid tests 40% sensitive, RT-PCR 70% sensitive, chest CT scan 90%+ sensitive! Excepting chest CT scan, other tests are found to give many false negatives or positives (by reacting to some other flu virus stain related to CORONA)! A negative needs to be compulsorily repeat tested again after 72 hours for confirmation! Also, sometimes even a double negative, in an immune deficient patient, can lead to reactivation of the virus!
Also, now it has been proven that CORONA affects almost all organs of the body unlike earlier thought as only restricted to pulmonary (lungs)! Most worrying is that patients r presenting with extra pulmonary symptoms like big clots causing brain stroke, clots in kidneys, liver, peripheral extremities without typical CORONA symptoms this misleading the clinicians; supposedly the same happened in a patient who was admitted to FN for stroke with no CORONA symptoms, treated for 35 days & finally found to be CORONA +ve & died!
In view of all the above possibilities, it's no guarantee that a person testing negative to routine rapid tests is not really negative!!

So, it's better to have separate dedicated wings for CORONA suspected victims with a team of highly trained doctors who are fully aware of the latest research in CORONA symptoms & varied treatments unlike the earlier std protocol of putting critical patients on ventilators, giving routine drugs like HCG, azithromycin etc assuming CORONA is just limited to the respiratory tract & waiting for a recovery!

The above is a very personal opinion based on latest data as on dreaded & tricky CORONA! Please do your own research, & do not blindly believe in any posts!!

    Jai Hind!!

Don't take it easy and venture out until proper medicine and vaccine is found.
You will be responsible for spreading this deadly virus.

The problem is the results of the test don't come immediately. Also, the complete lockdown hasn't helped inspire confidence. If it was left to the district administration from the beginning, things would have been better instead of the dictator locking down the country with four hours notice! Also, there is no clarity on tests because private hospitals aren't allowed to test! The private hospitals should have been involved in testing and treating patients from the beginning. They could have reserved wards and medical staff solely for this purpose.

Dear doc, every decision has been delayed, then a knee jerk reaction, then tentative directives changing by the day!
Do not wish to elaborate on the same!
Continuation of complete lockdown further will severely jeopardize our economy, which is already in doldrums!

Post CORONA socioeconomic effects will be much more painful and prolonged than CORONA saga itself!

Do all private hospitals have COVID -19 testing kits and if so what is the reliability of these tests as ICMR has rejected a lot of kits. Is the test affordable to ordinary people for coming to the private hospital to consult for Rs 50 -500/- that is also with difficulty. If they have insurance - as most of the private companies- is it covered by medical insurance. These are the issues to the government should address. I feel with COVID lot of private clinics, testing labs and private hospitals will close if clear guidelines are not given. There will not be any dentist to carry dental work as he will not be sure whether the COVID tests are done or not. Maybe every clinic will ask for a COVID clearance test certificate so that they can hold the person responsible.

These are difficult times and genuine patients who need treatment will suffer. The medical profession which was making money previously will also suffer as government rules of quarantine, the lockdown of the hospital and punitive action against medical professional will be detrimental.

COVID-19 has changed the way the medical field will function . Maybe it will also become online.

may be they re saying test Is mandatory for patients getting admitted into wards due to other medical conditions, pregnancy etc.. Who re going to spend few days inside hospital. Not for Outpatients who come for consultation, they may have to make special arrangements for OPDs
