Liquor shop in Bengaluru booked after jumbo single sale bill of Rs 52,841 goes viral

Bengaluru, May 5 (IANS): The Karnataka excise department booked a case against a wine shop owner in this tech city for allegedly selling more liquor than permitted under the law to a buyer on the first day of shops reopening for business after 40-day lockdown on Monday, an official said on Tuesday, May 5.

"We have booked a case against licensed shop owner S Venkatesh for reportedly selling Indian made liquor (IML) and beer to a buyer on Monday more than he is permitted under the Karnataka Excise Act section 36," Bengaluru South Excise Deputy Commissioner A Giri told IANS here.

The alleged sale came to light when the unidentified customer posted in the social media a receipt showing he bought liquor worth Rs 52,841 from Vanilla Spirit Zone in the city's south-eastern suburb on Monday afternoon.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that 17.4 litres of IML was sold against the permissible limit of 2.3 litres and 35.1 litres of beer against the legal limit of 18.2 litres," Giri said.

Venkatesh, however, told Giri that the buyer paid for the liquor bought by him and seven of his colleagues at the same time from the shop as they entered together.

"We are investigating to ascertain if Venkatesh violated the license conditions by paying for liquor bought by his friends with him at the same time," Giri added.

Please note, concerned only, this bill ensures a sizable component of the government coffers and next months salary. After all the government haf to turn to liquor consumer's to get them out of debt.
Also please check the law about liquor purchase, the explanation given is valid and no whete in the law it says o e bill should not be so high.
Also note dont get fooled one person can buy so much or even more. Its only he can't store it in one address. If he has 10 houses with different address he is completely legal in the purchase. No excise or police or anyone can stop him or her.
And remember, we saved the government

This is just an un accounted cash bill for owners convenience, without Excise duty or GST. Kaccha Bill.

Pakka bill will totally be different to be placed for Excise Records as the bills will be raised to the Permit Holders only.

This practice is being followed in almost all the Bars and wine shops

Not the facts and truth but playing with law. If he had made 10 receipts it would have been no issue. Be smart before and after boozing. Excise department will exercise their authority.

Henceforth idea of illegal transactions will not be entertained. One hand you no need to pay taxes and tried to avoid as much possible. Secondly you people need everything free from government from Hair Comb to Dawwat Basmati Chawl...to lift passengers stranded abroad thru flight. If arrange ship will object. At least during lock down to become honest. Ab nahin toh kabhie nahin..
