Receiving flak, Karnataka government resumes inter-state train services for migrant workers

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SHP)

Bengaluru, May 7: The Karnataka government on Thursday, May 7 reversed their decision concerning the cancellation of train services for migrant workers. Earlier on Wednesday, after conducting a meeting with top property developers of the state, chief minister B S Yediyurappa had ordered the cancellation of the train services which were scheduled to ferry the migrant labourers to their villages.

However, on Thursday, the government sent letters of request to several states seeking their consent to operate trains for transportation of stranded migrant labourers, tourists, students, pilgrims and other persons.

A senior government official had claimed that there were no reasons for the cancellation of the trains. Since the order was issued, the state government attracted strong criticism with people claiming that the government was robbing the fundamental rights of the migrants.

The BJP-led government in Karnataka has written to Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, West Bengal and Rajasthan governments seeking their consent to operate trains to their states from May 8 to 15 for transportation of people stranded in Karnataka.

The builders did not want migrant workers to leave the state. Karnataka BJP government finally decided to act after adverse publicity shamed them into doing what is right for migrant workers.

The Karnataka BJP government is only expertise in ferrying opposition MLA's and MP's for 'operation Kamala' to overthrow the elected government.

No party can beat the performance of BJP government from resort politics to watching 'porn' in the assembly. When it comes to floods or pandemic or migrant laborers the BJP has no solution.

Remember the plane that flew Karnataka MLAs to Mumbai belongs to firm associated with BJP Rajya Sabha member. The chartered plane in which 10 dissident MLAs of Congress and JD(S) flew from Bengaluru to Mumbai belongs to a company associated with Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Chandrasekhar founded Jupiter Capital in 2005, with an initial investment of US$100 million, and currently has investments and managed assets of over US$800 million in technology, media, hospitality, and entertainment. Jupiter Entertainment Ventures Private Limited owns and operates media companies including Asianet News, Kannada Prabha and Suvarna News 24x7 and Republic TV run by Arnab Goswami. The company also owns radio brands Best FM and Radio Indigo.

According to the election affidavit, Chandrasekhar held equity shares in six unlisted companies: Vectra Consultancy Services, SPL Infotech PTE, Jupiter Global Infrastructure, Minsk Developers, RC Stocks & Securities and Sanguine New Media.

Missing from the affidavit, however, was Jupiter Capital, the largest company controlled by Chandrasekhar.

If Jupitar Capital can arragne private jet for 'operation Kamala', why not extend the help to the migrant workers alike and show the live telecast on 'Republic TV'?

This is the very irony of our country, in this nation the poor are always at the receiving end. Mr BSY your corrupt mindset has come out in open. What was the reason to cancel trains in first place? So for you profit for your powerful real estate friends is more important than emotions of those scores of poor labourers. We are not fools here Mr, BSY, these very property developers give you n ur party crores of rupess as election chanda. SHAME! SHAME!

    See the irony . ..
It is a case of rebooting the economy right ?
What's the use of labor being here during lock down and taking flight after exit from it ? Their native the situation may be more horrible without work.
This might have been the thinking of GOK.
In any case you can't hold anyone hostage.
Ultimately it is the workers call.Your hand your head.

One more U turn after the backlash after trying to hold them captive. If your Masters wanted them here why did they ignore them during the lockdown and let them face the music alone ?
Now they require these poor destitutes to do their menial work. Only lip sympathy and vote bank politics.

Mr. Jossey, passengers who you refer as NRIs are paying for their travel which is more than the normal fare and are even paying to get qurantined for 14 days. The people who are flying are stranded passengers who were on visit visas and women and children and senior citizens.
They are screened for covid 19 before letting them go.

These Migrant labors are not your workless brainless Bhakts to do what you say. These are hard workers and they know how to make you all straight. Now Yeddi and Surya - please refund the builders money to builders what they gave to you to hold these labors at ransom as early as possible.

Good to hear that the migrants' fundamental rights have been restored.

Unless a person has committed a crime, the Government has no right to deny them their fundamental rights.
