New Delhi, May 8: The 32-year-old Imrana Saifi covered completely in a burqa with a disinfectant spray in hand has taken up the responsibility of sanitizing temples, mosques and gurudwaras in her neighbourhood.
The news comes from the North Delhi's Nehru Vihar which had been infamous for communal clashes two months ago. Saifi who is a mother to three children has been observing fasts for Ramadan, however, she still shows up with a sanitizer tank provided by local residential welfare association.
The temple priests welcome and even help her as she requests permission to spray the disinfectant inside and outside the temples in the North Delhi neighbourhood.
Saifi in early February had also extended help to the people affected by violence erupted through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
She has formed a team of 'corona warriors' with three other women. "I want to uphold the secular culture of India. I want to send a message that we are all one and we will stay together," Saifi said.
In the narrow lanes of Jafrabad, Mustafabad, Chandbagh, Nehru Vihar, Shiv Vihar, Babu Nagar, they say they do not differentiate between the mosques that play out the azaan and the temples that ring bells.
The priests reportedly have no qualms of Saifi helping them sanitize the temple, they also stressed the need to promote communal harmony and urged people to chose love over hatred and violence.
Saifi's husband Niyamat Ali is a plumber by profession and therefore she is required to work to make ends meet. The lockdown enforced has been difficult on her family with three children to care for. Nonetheless, Saifi has made it her mission to provide her service to the community.
