Mangaluru: Work on Kadri Park smart road worth Rs 12 crore begins

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 8: The work on the Kadri Park smart road being undertaken with the joint participation of the central and state governments as part of the Smart City concept at a cost of Rs 12 crore will begin today, said MLA D Vedavyas Kamath.

This 800-metre long road will be built by shifting drainage pipes, drinking water pipes, and electricity cables passing above etc to one side of the road. They will be accommodated in the underground facility. The road has been divided into east, west, and middle zones. The east zone is from Kadri police station to Akashvani on which the vehicles move and then take U-turn. The west zone is from Padua high school beginning point to Gorakshanath Hall where the vehicles have to take a U-turn. No vehicular movement is allowed on the middle zone.

Here, facilities for the children to play, walking track, fountain, bicycle track etc will be provided. The MLA instructed the officials to see that these things are provided. He said that discussions will be held with those who operate their shops etc here and suitable arrangements will be made for them.

After getting information that several trees would be axed to facilitate laying of the road, environmentalists gathered here on Thursday to protest against the move. MLA Vedavyas Kamath, assured the protesters that during the construction of this 780 metres road, greenery will get further boost and no trees would be cut down.

Smart road means either overhead or underground crossings for pedestrians. Otherwise it will remain a dumb road. There should be at least 2 properly constructed overhead crossings for pedestrians, preferably 3 & covered with CCTV on all sides, covering the passage & the road. Too many accidents on this road have occurred.

Gail Gas is soon going to commence piped gas supply to Mangalore city. I do not know how they will do it as pipes have to be underground. Most of main roads are concretised as also lanes and other roads newly Bituminised. The problem is Grandpas during my time working in City Administration wanted their Sons and Grandsons to continue in FUTURE. Maybe get contract again for their kith, kin and benefactors to dig up concrete roads for future projects.

12 crores for 780 mtr. Road?? That s also smart Road? What is the use of making a smart road (no idea on what the contractors definition) in between 2 junctions? And the work is started just before the arrival of Monsoon. Can we expect another pumpwell flyover in Kadri with blame on Monsoon.

Kadri park has become mcc spoilt child, everyear they spend crores on it.
Instead of that install lights under the pumpwell flyover and some reflectors.
It looks like someone will be assaulted soon in the darkness. Also what happened to installation of cctv cameras on the bridges.

Yes....true, drainages are full. First should concentrate on the cleaning of drainges.... Otherwise, there will be artificial flood as usual....make the way to flow rainy water easily....Avoid the problems of arising out of mixing up with gutter water with the drinking water.... Please do the needful.
