Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, May 9: Sources in Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) said that there is a possibility of the corporation buses beginning to operate city buses form May 11.

The district falls under the green zone. For the convenience of the people to move around, as per the instruction of the government, the district administration had taken a decision to allow KSRTC to operate buses on the city routes. Route survey has already been conducted on the routes where KSRTC can run its buses. KSRTC and regional transport office officials have jointly submitted route survey report to the district administration. Based on the report, the administration will take a suitable decision.

Canara Bus Operators Association president, Rajavarma Ballal said that at a meeting of senior officials of the transport department with private bus operators held at Bengaluru on Friday, a concrete decision could not made. He said that the matter can be further considered only after the lockdown ends. He said that in the next phase, discussions will be held with the chief minister and transport minister.

The officials asked the bus operators to operate buses with 50 percent capacity but the bus owners said this will plunge them into deeper losses. Discussion on the possibility of increasing bus fare by 50 percent was taken up but a clear consensus did not emerge. The bus owners sought three months tax holiday, and payment of compensation to bus conductors and drivers like auto and taxi drivers. The officials said they will discuss with the chief minister and transport minister before reverting.

Canara Bus Operators Association president Rajavarma Ballal, Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners Association president Dilraj Alva, Canara Bus Owners Union office bearer Venkataramana Pai and some others participated in the meeting.

Rather than starting bus service just allow to travel in two wheeler or Auto for time being.
riding on bus has more chances of spreading virus from one person to other.

After nearly two months lock down, is it not better to open the roads for passengers keeping distance in between passengers for return to normal life within the country as the hotspots are recognised keeping vigilance on their progress?

I don't see any improvisation with the continual lockdown process in and around the cities. Hence I request the transport department to allow ferry of commuters who have been stuck up in cities other than their home town. Since the passengers have been put into a distress situation allowing minimal restrictions upon the public would be wise take rather than having stringent lockdown process whereby the availabilityility of the basic necessities also seem tough.

Very good news. I am happy that Udupi is doing for bus passengers. They have a dynamic DC. At the same time I request our DC to start Government bus service in Mangalore also. And this is a proper time to start Government buses and takeover private buses. They must start the bus service like in Delhi, that private buses under Delhi Transport company.

Allow the situation to normalise by imposing reasonable restrictions for human safety and stopping the spread of the pandemic. Don't discriminate between the public and private transporters. Violators should be prosecuted if they breach the regulations.

We have seen the buses taken over by Govt thru some ordi ence /order during Urs regime. If it was a success why then private buses were allowed after nationalisation. So that was complete failure and lots of ppl lost their uses at that time.

My suggestion is, let the government take control of all private bus routes along with the fleet and staff, and operate only KSRTC buses. Reasonable compensation also should be arranged for the private bus owners.
