Mangaluru: Daijiworld impact - No fines, disconnection till June 30 if electricity bill not paid

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, May 12: With lockdown rules relaxed in the district, day-to-day life of people is slowly coming back to normal. Along with normalcy, the general public is back to receiving bills and playing them off. People in Mangaluru had to suffer ‘electric shock’ when they were given electricity bills with huge fines.

After noticing overcharging in electricity bills, a number of consumers contacted Daijiworld media and expressed their helplessness in the lockdown period. Daijiworld TV discussed the issue on its programme News Talk on Monday May 11 and urged the elected representatives to clear the issue.

Soon after, on Tuesday, May 12, MLA U T Khader, MLC Ivan D’Souza put pressure on the district administration and MESCOM to revert its decision of penalising consumers. District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary directed MESCOM to stop overcharging and levying fines on consumers up till the end of June. He also instructed MESCOM officials not to disconnect electricity supply over non- payment of bills. Moreover, they are asked not to impose fines for delayed payments. He said that the instructions are imposed by the state chief minister.

Earlier, Ivan D’Souza strongly condemned the burden put on consumers during lockdown time by MESCOM. MLC Harish Kumar too urged officials to stop the present billing policy at the earliest and rectify the error.

The officials explained the billing pattern and accepted error while generating bills through their system. They also assured appointment of sub division officials where consumers can discuss their issues and get solutions.

@ MESCOM. KDP24 We have received consolidated Bill for 2 months for Rs 1838.00, we paid the bill online by debit card. The total amount debited was 1852.70 an excess of Rs 14.70. Is this a punishment for having paid the bill on time.

No that is not a punishment but an overcharge from Debit Card payment gateways like billdesk or techprocess. They make 10 to 15 rupees per first payment only within 24 hours from same ip address. If you want to avoid being extra charged it is best you use Net Banking.

Here is the solution to the problem. Mescom has combined the total of 2 month's consumption and billed as per the slabs to their advantage. To rectify the error they should divide the total consumed units by 2 and bill as per the slabs this will rectify the excess. Hope they will consider my solution.

Mescom need to generate bills monthly basis then problems will solve, they need to revise the last generated 2 month bill(March and April need to saperate bill approximately base on old previous month reading) and need to deduct the money those who paid by online. If giving excuse up to June and again Mescom giving 2 month bill toghter means it is meaningless and problem will solve.

Fact is simple. Political propoganda is not the need of the hour. Public is aware that bills can be paid as there is option of self reading. Electricity bill tariffs were phenomenonally increased under DK Shivakumar s wrong Congress policies. Contract is a fraud right from 2013. The CAG report will correct this

MESCOM ur cmg to court soon. I hav paid d Narch month bill which was same as generated in Feb. Inspite of payment, u have given me a bill for 2956 minus d payment made in March for 956. Not giving a bill in March is your mistake not mine. Either rectify d mistake or c u in court soon. Foolish people.

Most of these employees handling the billing issue at MESCOM themselves are a big mess. They are inefficient and useless when it comes to problem solving. Let them keep generating monthly bill and then problem is solved. Payment can be done end of June or just be fore elections, if the bills are yet to be paid.

This is one of the worst power utility co in India; just see their infrastructure, the equipment they use, the way their personnel work; over & above that they resort to manipulation of bills to extract money from the gullible common public who are already in a state of penury due to closure of business activities!
Such organisations deserve a class action suit to be filed by a group of consumers for surreptitiously overcharging, & then saying "it's a mistake" !!!

Where are Nalin Kumar, Vedavyas Kamath at this hour of need. Last seen them at railway station posing with migrant workers boarding the train. First I thought all these efforts were only by these two to arrange for free ticket and all travel arrangements as they were posing as if they own the train but later on I learnt that they were collecting one way ticket fare from jobless migrants workers which was already fully paid for workers by congress.

Our demand is month wise billing. We don't want 3 months total bill. It makes a big fraud by Mescom. Tomorrow our side bill issuing staff is coming. We want to check the bill. If it is ok,then we'll and good. Otherwise the problem is not solved. Disconnecting the connection is not the question, if proper bill issued then the problem solved. If corrected bill not paid by consumers, then only disconnecting question arise.

Mescom gave the bill in the month of April through Online. I had done online payment. Today When I received the bill , I found that billing was done for the total units consumed for 2 months. Ofcourse they have deducted amount i paid in April while calculating amount to be paid in May. I have to pay about rs 1000 more this month.

Even I paid the Bill As shown in the Gpay,Paytm Platform for the month of April Since I did not get a hard copy of the Bill and it was paid well in advance. when I got the Bill Today as mentioned it was a combined bill. Units calculated for the second month will definitely fall under the maximum unit slab.

Day Robbery from Mescom, Since they knows that due to Corona Pandamic meter reading was not carried out. Now they calculate total consumption of 2 month one bill rather than issuing two bills monthly.

Due to calculating consuption of 2 month automatically unit price of consumption increase.

Companies like Mescom should be punished for their day robbbery or Minister of Electricity should be held responsible to rob citizens.

    Dear MESCOM CEO and All,
Please understand that there is a calculation error. Since meter reading in the month of April was not taken and now in the May month when MESCOM has taken the meter reading, the system has taken two months consumption as one months consumption and calculated the slab wise cost accordingly. Hence bulk of the units have gone into Rs 7+ slab (Max Slab). MESCOM must have diveded the total units into two and then calculated separately as two separate months bill.
This is total injustice for people who had paid in the month of April based on digitial bill raised by MESCOM.
This is open robbery by MESCOM. And whether we pay fine or not or no disconnections as stated is immaterial.

Please check your Electricity bill correctly. Although the bill is for 2 months, it has doubled the number of units under various stages. The first stage monthly it was 0 to 30 but this time it raised to 61. The next stage 70 units raised to 142 and the next 100 units raised to 203. If your consumption was high then you need to pay more money. I get an average monthly bill of 1900 and this time it's a bit high due to Work From Home (Additional Rs. 600)
