Mangaluru: Pilar area in Someshwar declared containment zone

Mangaluru, May 13: Following the detection of one coronavirus-positive case, a resident of Daranda Bagilu in Pilar, Someshwar, on Wednesday, May 13, the district administration has declared specific area of Pilar, as a containment zone.

Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh issued an order declaring Pilar, Someshwar, as an active containment zone.

The order states that the containment zone includes 95 houses, nine shops, one office and a total population of 430 people. The containment area is bound by Abhi General Store in the east, Pilar Masjid in the west, Pajandaya Daivasthana in the North, and Nithyadhar Church in the south. 

Also, a buffer zone of an area of five km around the containment zone has been created, with Uchila bridge marking its east boundary, Yekkur bus stop its west boundary, sea in the north boundary and Konaje bus stop marking its south boundary.

There are 21,390 houses in the buffer zone, and 5,211 shops and offices, covering a population of 1,03,098 people.

For effective implementation of coronavirus control measures, tahsildar and taluk magistrate have been appointed as incident commander who will be in-charge of the containment zone, the order stated.

The administration has already declared a few other areas in the district as containment zones.

A total of 34 cases have been detected in Dakshina Kannada so far out of which 15 are currently active. As many as 15 persons have recovered and been discharged, and four deaths have occurred so far.
