Karnataka to go by Centre's advice on lockdown if extended after May 17

Bengaluru, May 16 (IANS): Karnataka would follow the Central government's advice if the lockdown is extended after May 17 though it suggested for continuation of its restrictions only in containment areas, an official said on Friday.

"The state government will abide by the Centre's advice if the lockdown is extended beyond May 17 with more relaxations. We are waiting for it (advice) and guidelines from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs," an official in the Chief Minister's Office told IANS here.

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's directive after his fifth interaction with Chief Ministers of all states through video conferencing on May 11, Karnataka favoured lockdown curbs even after May 17 in containment zones only and lifting them in other areas, which are free from the infection.

"Our assessment is relaxations will be for more activities in all areas except in red zones or hotspots though wearing mask, washing hands with sanitiser and maintaining physical distance will continue for all everywhere," said the official.

Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa wrote to the Prime Minister that the state wanted to do away with red, orange and green zones in all its 30 districts and strictly cordon off only containment areas, the official said.

The state also wants the containment areas or zones limited to 50-100 metres around known clusters and sealed off.

"Commercial activities, including public transport should be allowed in non-containment zones in all districts across the state, with safety norms like wearing mask and maintaining social distancing," said the official.

The state, however, favoured extension of ban on domestic and international travel till month-end to contain the virus spread.

"The state also sought resumption of all economic activities in stand-alone establishments with restriction on malls, cinema halls, dining facilities and centrally air-conditioned buildings," the official said.

The state has decided to place all returnees from overseas and other states by flights, trains, buses and other vehicles in 14-day institutional quarantine and allow them to go home if they test negative later.

All inter-state returnees should have a health clearance certificate from the local authority or designated hospital of the place they are coming through the inter-state border through trains or in buses for mandatory quarantine.

The state has reported 1,056 Covid positive cases till Friday, with 539 active cases, 480 discharged and 36 deaths since the outbreak of the disease.

Karnataka also informed the Union Health Ministry that there was no trace of Covid community transmission across the state and 25 per cent of cases were owing to domestic and international travel history.

The Karnataka BJP government is only good in managing resort politics and operation Kamala. When real time situation comes it runs away from responsibility.

Today only two states in India is successfully managed this crisis very well. The communist ruled Kerala and BJD ruled Odhisha government under CM Patnik.

The central government late response has cost India more than 50 days of lock down with Rs. 40,000 crores of loss each day. Our cases are now more than China. Despite government full assurance now Mumbai health sector run out of beds. The US government is giving free supplies of ventilators which government is hiding.

As of today the center is not even bothered to implement the Disaster management act,2005. The nine member committee is not even formed. None of the deceased people has been compensated. The entire demography is on the highway marching for home towns. The center don't even has exist strategy is in limbo.

Just following the Alfa male herd of sheep only lead to the ditch. At least copy the success of the neighboring state and end the dead lock.

Sir, actually, if they calculate the number of total deaths of migrants in ghastly accidents, starvation, suicides, lynchings & other indirect CORONA conundrum & CORONA phobia deaths, the overall mortality directly by CORONA conundrum (including, most, those who died due to comorbidities, but not directly by CORONA) seems to be, luckily, pretty low in our country considering our population, poverty, ignorance, low hygiene etc! In that context, the complete lockdown if continued further will hit the last nail in our battered down economy; in which most MSME businessmen are in dire straits; this will have a cascading effect leading to major cases of financial failures, depression, divorces, suicides etc as the post CORONA phobia unleashes it's indirect destruction!!

I tend to agree with you. As long as dynamic youngsters are not given a chance, revival is a far cry.
When you hang on to the likes of Siddu, Poojari, Ramanatha Rai, Lobo , Ivan etc its just a doomsday formula.

Look at the world NOT from your position but look at the world from YOUR position.
Majority of Ktaka has already voted for this CM. The 2nd and the 3rd ranker formed a coalition Govt that was against the mandate of the people. The ex CM Siddu was reduced to be the peon of Mrs, HDK.
Hence the infighting was obvious. Meanwhile in the Centre Cong was trashed to pulp and the party leader was booted out of his 100 year old family bastion by a lady and had to flee to Wayanad Kerala to win on minority votes. Hence the coalition too in the State did not last long as expected.

We keep hearing this from GOK but some ministers seem to be in a hurry ...
One says ...Gyms will be open,Golf courses open,Eateries open....so you know the adjustments and dealings...All such ministers should be,asked to shut up !
Education department is over enthusiastic which also is not good.
Excise Minister also gives statements like he wishes...Transport Minister also...
Then comes this MHA guidelines caption...
Can't all these Ministers shut up for a few days then rather than make it obvious as,to the preference of their 'Lobbies '..The reason we all know ..
