Mangaluru: Spanish tourist loves coastal hospitality, vows to come back

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 16: A Spanish tourist, Martha Martin Islas, who was hospitalized in the city after she injured herself during the country's tour, says she loves Mangalurean hospitality and the environment here. She said she is determined to come back.

Matha (24) is a dancer who holds postgraduate degree in psychology. She reached Kolkata on January 9 this year for touring India. On her way, she reached Gokarna during the first week of January. In Gokarna, she came in contact with a tourist from Bengaluru, Sukesh. When climbing the hill between Om Beach and Half Moon Beach at Gokarna, Martha fell several metres down the crevice and fractured her legs, hands, and suffered injuries on her back. Sukesh and two foreign tourists rushed there after getting her call and searched for her for 90 minutes. They got her admitted into hospital. Sukesh sent her to Tejaswini Hospital Mangaluru in the company of Nirmala Jain and her husband, whom he knew.

After Sukesh contacted her, Martha's mother Dr Diana Islas, reached Mangaluru on February 29. Martha underwent four surgeries as the injuries suffered by her were of grave nature. The mother-daughter duo was ready to return after the last surgery on April 2 but lockdown stopped them from leaving. Martha, during her compulsory stay here, has turned a fan of Mangaluru and its people. She has thanked the doctors and nurses who looked after her needs and also Nirmala Jain who accommodated them at her home.

The two left on Friday for Bengaluru from where they are scheduled to fly to Paris and then to Spain.

I wish Martha a speedy recovery... She is most welcome to visit India !!! My concern is that we Indians, have dual standards... Heartbreaking to watch the miserable state of migrants, desperately escaping, the Covid19 pandemic regions, which have made them destitutes, want to go back to their villages, in doing so, many have been killed in train n road accidents... they are indeed caught between the devil n the deep sea !!! Whereas help and medical aid is provided instantaneously, to a foreign tourists, who is seriously involved in an accident....

I wish Martha Martin Islas a speedy recovery and hope to go back to your country with your mother as soon as soon as the lockdown is called off and given green signal by the government to fly back. Your kind words and appreciation given to all the doctors, nurses, and all those you gave the best treatment during your surgeries and stay in the hospital in Mangalore. Your visit back to the coastal districts will be welcomed.

This is how Indians treat foreigners. Just see how Gulf countries treating Indians.

When they needed us for development of their country, they used us. Now they don't want us. Had a single NRI got some facility from gulf Govt in this bad time.

What good life. After working so many years they don't even have a mediclaim cover. Which is basic. In India even a porter has mediclaim. They don't even have a capacity to live in that country for 2 months without getting salary. Means no saving, no security, no support from Govt and employer. Is this called good life?.

Mr. Praveen, you are partially correct. If not educated and still come here thinking of rosy world, then it's like suicide. Low pay worker suffer Everytime irrespective of virus or not. Imagine , they come here for paltry 1200aed, which is around 24k in India. That's around 800rupees per day. I'm Mangalore a painter will earn 600.

When you have facilities in India why you want to go to gulf. Gulf has not invited promising you that they will provide everything. It's your own choice.
