Pune: Three Held in RTI activist Satish Shetty's Murder Case

Pune, Jan 16 : Three persons, including a lawyer, have been arrested in connection with the murder of Right To Information activist and graft whistle-blower Satish Shetty at Talegaon near Pune, police said on Saturday.

The trio was held late on Friday night, they said. The lawyer, Vijay Dabhade, allegedly had an old enmity with Shetty who had exposed many land scams in the Maval region, sources said.

The slain activist had lodged complaints against Dabhade in the past for attacking him, they said.

Two others held in the case were Pramod Waghmore and Parshuram Telgu.

Shetty was murdered by two unidentified assailants at Talegaon, a small village about 45 km from Pune, on January 13 when he was taking a morning walk.

The arrested persons would be produced in a court at Wadgaon in Maval taluka, police said. Police faced flak from Shetty's family members and social activists of various shades for 'slow' response in the case.

Several social organisations in the region held a candlelight vigil last night in memory of Shetty, who had worked closely with anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

To Mr. Shahnawaz Kukkikatte, You seem to be obsessed with Sangh parivar / BD/ RS. Why do you and your ilk all the time bring in BD, RS, etc. on every subject matter and try to divert the core of the issue??? For dear friends like you, May I kindly remind that Bajrang Dal, Ram Sene, etc. are in existence only because of the successive governments’ shameful display of impotence in taking action on misdeeds being carried out by sections of minorities’ groups against the majority community.

It is an open fact that the governments shy away in taking action against the people responsible for malicious designs on Hindus & Hinduism due to the risk of losing their vote banks. As such, it is left upon such Hindutva groups to take upon the mantle to safeguard the interests of Hindus & Hinduism, specially in such cases or crimes where inter-faith issue is involved (Hindu / Muslim / Christian)), because it is most likely that the government may go soft in favor of the minority community.

However, Mr. Satish Shetty’s murder is a clear case of righteousness versus corruption, and the there is no excuse for the government or police to not act impartially & immediately on this case. If you still expect the Hindutva groups to act on such issues also, then what are the police & government agencies appointed for??? Let them shut down their offices.

There is no value for a human life in our country... rape, murder, acid attack, molestation or eve teasing no punishment in our Indian Judiciary and the culprit is left loose for doing such crimes repeatedly. Indian Govt should take tough stance on this. Wake up politicians and do something before it's too late..

Now murder has taken place for exposing illegal activities. I have a question. Where is Mr Muthalik and his sene and other activists who are working for hindu interests. Is it not a national interest? Why cant Muthalik go and attack the killer of this young social activist? Is their responsibility restricted to attacking girls and members of other community. NOw everyone knows what they are and whats their agenda is.
