The girl might have forgotten to deposit the cell phone with the principal. Even if she has taken deliberately, this is too harsh a punishment for a 13 year girl. She has not done any criminal act.

Ignorance of Law is no excuse. But the victim should have been given the right to defend. Therefore the defence lawyer can plead for mercy on behalf of the guilty. It is funny world that Major crimes yet times walk free saying no evidence.A small girl really deserve compassionate correction and not the harsh punishment.I think the Law require Reforms

Is the crime because the cell phone had a camera. But frankly children these days all carry cell phones as its become a itegrated part of our life. Also this matter should be handled by the school and not by the govt. In all countries minors are not given harsh sentences. I really wish true democracy comes to Saudi arabia as it has come to the rest of the arab world. Even Iran being an islamic country will not hand out such cruel punishments. Mainly because she is a woman the punishments are harsher in order to supress the voice of the women.

All the Islamic scholars and clerics should stand up and oppose such nonsence if they are really and truly serving god who is all merciful, all kind and understanding and mainly forgiving and not the dictates of fanatics. If god was not forgiving then places of pilgrimage would have no value if there was no forgivness of sins.

In my opinion this is not punishment rather harassment. Moreover this punishment is cruel and the case should have been brought under the notice of her parents at least one, two or three times. Later the punishment must be light not harsh because she is a teenager.

In Minera girls school Jeddah, the students have to deposit the cell phones with principal when they come to school and take them back while going home. No cell phones are allowed inside the class room. It sure appears that this particular girl might have taken the cell phone to the class room.

This is just too much. Its not such a big crime that deserves such kind of a punishment.
