Udupi: Second Tallest Chariot in Asia Constructed at Perdoor

Udupi, Jan 25: The second tallest chariot in Asia has been built at Perdoor here for the Yoga Mandir Mutt of Beldame in Bagalkot district. This chariot made of wood and brass is next only to the 99 feet one in Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu.

 

The 67 feet chariot will be dedicated to Sri Kumaresha Mahaswami on his 100th anniversary on February 14.Sri Sanganabasava Swamiji who arrived at Perdoor to see the chariot on Sunday January 24, said that it would be taken to Badami on January 30.

Vastu consultant, Rajashekar Hebbar revealed that the Chalukya and Hoysala style of architecture styles were the inspiration behind designing of the chariot. The chariot has a 25- feet high carved wooden base, 9-feet wooden mantap, two domes of 14 and 9 feet and a Kalash on the top made of brass. A scene of ten horses pulling a chariot is sculpted on the wooden base. Animals like peacock, elephant have also been painted in the chariot.

The chariot was constructed at an estimated Rs 1.5 crore.
