Road ahead is a long one, says Modi on COVID-19 fight

New Delhi, May 31 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that even though curbs have been lifted and the economy has opened-up, people still need to be vigilant without laxity.

The remarks came a day after the Central government issued 'Unlock 1' guidelines allowing a phased re-opening of most activities across the country and limiting the lockdown only to containment zones for a month till June 30.

In his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', Prime Minister Modi said, "Many curbs have been lifted. A major chunk of the economy is now active again. We need to be more vigilant, be it maintaining a distance of six feet, wearing a mask, staying at home, we must follow all this without laxity. The road ahead is a long one; we are fighting a pandemic about which little was previously known."

The Prime Minister added, "Looking at the world, we release how big is the achievement of Indians. The population is more, challenges are different, even then coronavirus could not spread as fast as it did in other countries. The fatality rate is also lower in our country."

He also lauded the people for their collective efforts in valiantly fighting the battle against coronavirus. "During this pandemic, we have shown that the idea of service and sacrifice are not mere ideals for us but are the way of life. The entire movement is people driven. In such a vast country, every citizen has taken upon themselves to fight the battle."

He said that the innovation amid the challenging times has touched his heart as a multitude of countrymen from villages and cities, from small scale traders to startups and labs are devising even new ways of fighting against the virus.

The Prime Minister said that the vaccine development programme in the Indian labs is being watched by the world with anticipation and hope.

"There is a saying, "Seva Paramo Dharmha". Service is a pleasure in itself. The victory over the virus will depend on our innovation," Prime Minister Modi added.

In our country religious polarization gone to such an extent that now it is very difficult for the people to understand which is good and which is bad. In democracy the people must ask questions to the Govt. Modi hypnotized the people with his marvelous oratory skills and he is fooling people again and again. Moreover he got one of the most weak opposition and if anybody speak against his policies his it cell propaganda machine put them CBI,IT raid and name them anti nationals. So no chance anybody to crossover modi's regime for the time being and people must listen to his MANN KI BAATH without choice

Road ahead is the long one...….but who is responsible for making it so?

It is unfortunate that decision of one man in delaying the screening at airports and delay in lockdown has caused massive spread of the virus. There is lot to be learnt from Taiwan & New Zealand and their leadership. Country and people should have been the first choice and not the politics or the event.

Anyhow now we have to live with it. Virus in one hand and hardship on the other. This is the typical example of how the leadership can fail the country.

    Dear Aks Kandavar,

It is not the population that matters. It is the steps they have taken, when it was taken and how it was implemented. Just read them and you will understand.

For them country comes first and politics later. That is the difference.

    Dear AKS
In India we don't know how many people came to India after the outbreak of Corona virus and we cannot screen them before they enter and now we are comparing the population of NEWZEALAND. If we would have done proper screening and banned international flights until proper arrangements the situation would have been definitely better. My dear friend question Govt. Don't depend it, only people are in trouble not the politicians.

Democracy? Elections?? What are you talking about???

They win elections by either brainwashing voters by dividing people on caste lines or doing fraud. In case they don't win, they purchase MP/MLAs from opposition parties and make govt. Are you calling this process as Democracy???
